Do T6 style stocks count as "telescoping stocks" if at the smallest setting they remain over the legal size for a rifle in NYS? (26"+)

If they do count as "telescoping stocks", then does rendering the stock unable to 'telescope' by means of pinning or another unreversible method, make the stock a non-telescoping stock?

An example of the T6:

Thanks in advance.

I hope this hasn't been covered elsewhere... I did a couple searches and checked the FAQ's and came up with nothing.

Assuming it's a post ban rifle, if the stock is fixed you're good to go.  If it moves, you're not.  Whether or not it's fixed at the collapsed position or at full extended makes no difference.

So I need to pin it in place to make it legal?

Can I do it with something as simple as a screw? Does it need to be more permanent? Irreversible?

It has to be pinned to be not easily reverted to it's original function.  I'd make it damn near impossible to revert just to avoid any legal issues that the clowns at batf could come up with.

There's a little hole on top of the stock. I drilled a pilot hole and put a screw in there. Then I covered the screw/hole with plumbing putty that turns hard so you can't get to the screw head. Lastly I painted it to match the stock.

Do you think that's enough? Its the only way I could think to do it without ruining the stock.

Are there a lot of guys with T6 style stocks on their AR's and AK's? I've seen them in gun shops on various AR's so I assume they had pinned them in place.

Its no longer BATF, its state police and they could give a shit, unless you're arrested on different charges and they wrap a possession of AW into your other charges.

This may be true but imho it's not good advice.  I too wish I could just install that Romy Sidefolder I  have on my SAR and hit the range but better judgement rules the day.  It all comes down to whether your freedom is worth more than a collapsing stock, or not worth the price of buying a pre-ban.

OP - I think the measures you have taken should be sufficient, and I hope someone else who knows more than me will chime in just to make sure.

Devil, I appreciate the advice.

Getting a second opinion on the matter is always nice. I'm curious to see if anyone else has a T6-style stock on one of their rifles and how they pinned it.

I agree

some dont know the laws to begin with, which can be bad..as they may assume anything that looks evil to be illegal...

but, many just dont enforce certain laws, this being one
