I was looking at the Stag Arms lefty AR, my one main concern is upgradability.

What would I not able to change on the rifle.  I mainly concerned with barrel and handguard?

Huh, don't completley understand your question. What do you want to change?

Since it's a left handed model, left handed bolt, left handed forward assist,  what aftermarket parts would not be compatable.  I'm guessing barrels don't care if the bolt is right or left handed?

Correct, barrels make no difference. Bolt should be fine too. I never heard of a lefty bolt. That's all I can think of.

From their web site, "Stag Arms has finally launched the worlds first
TRUE left-handed Assault Rifle.
"TRUE"= Left-Handed Ejection Port, Ejection Port Door, Brass Deflector,
Forward Assist, Ambi-Selector. and it's made from forged 7075 T6 Aircraft Quality Aluminum."

Well the extractor has to be on the left intead of right for the casing to fly out left.

This will probably be accomplished by putting the bolt in the carrier in the opposite position. I would image the carrier would be slightly modified to accomplish this. I couldn't find a memtion of this on their website however.

One of the many benefits of the AR platform is interoperability.

In a SHTF situation, certain parts of your rifles would not be interchangeable with parts of other persons rifles.

As you stated, upper receiver and bolt (probably) are the parts that are truly different.

Barrel and handguards would be fine, unless the barrel extension was somehow different (unlikely).

That shouldn't stop anyone from buying a leftie AR however, just one factor to consider.

wouldn't the bolt carrier have to be machined on the opposite sideto engage the FA?

I've always shot lefty on the AR with no problem at all. I guess the Stag is just a nice to have kinda thing.

I am a lefty and I have no problem with shooting righty ARs.  IMO I would stick with regular ARs as replacment parts are more redaily avaiable.

Another lefty here.  I opted to spend $2.95 on a clip on brass deflector rather then go for a dedicated lefty upper.  Before the using the deflector, wolf  cases would bounce off my chin but NATO spec stuff would be no problem.  My AR does not have the built in deflector bump.  I also added an ambidextrous saftey for $25.00 and am now satisfied.  I just can't justify spending the money on the Stag myself.
