Ok gents, My wife and I have decided to finally leave this communist state. However, I work in Manhattan and need to have a reasonable commute into work everyday. We were thinking Connecticut but not exactly sure yet. Anywhere else worth looking into? Also, anyone know what cities are commutable to Manhattan so we can find a place to start our search? It would need to be a nice neighborhood.

Thanks all!

We are very excited about our decision so any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Stroudsburg, PA area is about an hour and change into downtown Manhattan.  Remember CT has an AWB.

CT and PA both allow Class 3.  CT has the worse laws of the two but PA is a long commute to NY.

I have a cousin that lives in one of those gated communities in the pocanos in PA.  He works in NYC and I believe it is about a 2 hour or so commute.  He car pools so it is not too bad

Dutchess Co, NY is 70-90 min to the city. Unrestricted permit, quiet easy life.

I cannot imagine driving two hours each way to go to work.

me either tc556, would rather put up with the bs here and move after retirement...
4 hours a day on the road - definitely not my choice...

They lived on Staten Island and wanted to move out for the kids sake. Iguess they thought PA would be safer for them.

Sometimes it takes 2 hrs to get to work for some people who live in Nassau and Suffolk County.

I would go to PA instead of CT. Like said better laws and less taxes also.

I'd go to PA for the above mentioned reasons.  CT might be a option, but I'm not too sure of the costs associated with the state.

You can also do what I'm doing.  LEAVE the northeast all together.  I'm heading out to Colorado.

ONLY the beaches, surf, boating, and more moderate summers and winters will keep me here, but that will be enough...
that could change with Spritzer though...

I know two people who used to commute to Manhattan from PA. One lived in the Philly area and took the train into the city. The other one lived in East Stroudsburg and drove in every day. Every four years he bought a new car and gave the old one with +200,000 miles on it to his wife to use locally. Both of them eventually couldn't take it anymore and found jobs in PA. Spending 3-4 hours a day commuting to work will take years off your life.
