Went to calverton on sunday with my son and a friend, it was to be his first time shooting something other than a paint ball or pellet rifle and after about 30min. of safety do's & dont's  and familiarizing him with the rifle basics, i let him do his thing. he was a little nervous at first but settled down quickly. he started out with a scoped savage bolt action in .223  at 200 yds. then  wanted to shoot my friends  M1 on a rest, then blasted a couple of rounds from my AR-50 then did about 20-30 rounds from my AR-15.  I think he did quite well and he told me this was one of the best times he's ever had.  Now my daughter wants to go. now i know how my father felt , and it feels damn good!        SEMPER FI!

My oldest is going to be 7 and I'm not sure if I can wait a few more years until I can have a shooting buddy.

Congrats...I can almost see your smile from here. What a way to break a cherry...M1's, AR50,  jeez Louise!!!
