Wondered if anyone can help me since I have some expericence with reloading pistol ammo but not with .223. I have some once fired Lake City Military brass, Hornaday 55gr SP bullets and IMR 4895 powder and wondered if anyone has reloaded this before and what data specs can you give me. I can be found on aol/AIM - mforo40 or on yahoo - firemen737 Thanks matt |

Here's DUPont's own reloading data from their website. .223 Remington load data |
It all depends on caliber, what you use for components as well as where you buy them. A pound of powder is 7,000 grains. Devide that by your charge weight to equal the number of charges. Powder is best purchased from a stocking dealer or at the funshows, due to the cost of shipping ($20. HAZMAT tag + shipping) Same with primers. Bullets are all over the place depending on brand. AFAIK Gander Mountain is selling Hornady bullets at near dealer cost. why/how long: I don't know. Best buy if you can find someone who carries or will order for you is "Winchester Bulk-Pack" components. They come in plastic bags and the stuff is very resionable! The up-front cost might seem a little high, but if you shoot a case of ammo a year, it will have paid for itself, besides the equipment will last a lifetime if properly maintained. If you only shoot a hundred or so rounds a year of generic small stuff like 9mm, or .223 it proabably wouldn't make sense, but if you own something that uses $20. or more a box ammo, it does. (ever price a box of .300 Weatherby cartridges?) There's always the threaputic effect of roling your own. Developing a load that cuts cloverleaves: priceless!

| i have a program that can tell u how many rounds u get out of a lb of powder. I get 580 rd with 1lb of powder using 25 grs. I also have the IMR manual and read the same info but when looking at the Hornaday book its saying that .26 grains is the max for using a 55gr soft point bullet and thats what i have for rds. |

The problem with reloading military brass is that the primers are swaged in. Its easy enough to get the primer out when you run it through the sizing die. But you will need to ream/swage out the pocket before a new primer can be seated. I reload only for accuracy and Highpower Competition in my AR's. Otherwise, for blasting ammo, I use Q3131A Winchester White Box. |

There is a Gander Mountain in Middletown. and for the the replies on reloading and the cost vs. rewarding hobby, many thanks. I probably do shoot a case a year of .223, and half a case of .380, .38, and .45. But, I fish, I canoe, I am getting a kayak, change my own oil and mow my own lawn, and even hunt a few times a year. Hmmm, I am planning on retiring in 4 more years though, maybe then. |
