I live in the city of Albany, I just put a deposit on a pistol and filed for an amendment.
Amendments usually take 28 days - a month as the process requires me to go before a Judge.

While filing my amendment I was given a memo dated March/09/05 requesting that I be patient because the County Clerks office is iin between moving office space.

Has anyone recently (in the city of Albany) had their pistol permit amended and how long did it take.

Regards
Billy

I live within city limits of Albany, and for all of my amendments I have had to appear in city court.
I have had my permit since 1986.

When you say "appear" are you saying you are required to appear before a Judge?  Is so I have never heard of anyone being required to do that to add/remove a handgun from a PP.

BillyBones, are you talking about upgrading your PP status, say from hunting/target shooting to a Unrestricted Carry? That would require at least a personal appearance before the judges court assistant, if not the actual presiding pistol permit judge.

Or if you are talking about just adding/deleting a pistol from the permit, it should only take a trip to your PP office with a dated bill of sale.

Yes, before the Judge in City Court... from my past experiences (5) permits/amendments are heard last, after all of the eviction proceedings.

No, I am not upgrading to unrestricted.
I have had to appear for all (5) amendments... 2 moving and 3 acquisitions.

I have appeared before Hon. Larry Rosen, Hon. Madonna Stahl and Hon. Leslie Stein.

My best experience was with Hon. L.E. Stein, she commended me for filing to amend. my address the day after moving.

Do any of you live in the City of Albany?

BTW What is the process in the city of Albany for having restrictions lifted from my license.
I would like unrestricted carry.

Erie County takes anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes to add or remove. I haven't had to do an ammendment since the new County budget cuts and staffing cutbacks so who knows how long now.

that's not too bad. still same day purchase and pick up of a handgun
no idea on how the budget affects them. they did say it would be 2-3 weeks from when I gave them a picture and put my thumbprint on the card that would become my permit until I got it in the mail but it was a few weeks longer than that

Wow, that really sucks. I had no idea Albany was that bad. I'm curious, when you go before the judge to add a pistol, do you have to justify why you need "another gun"? It's just so ridiculous that you go through all the hassle to get a permit and you have to go through it again to just add a pistol to it.

I wish you good luck in having your restrictions removed. Ok, that sounds sarcastic, but it's not, really, good luck. ;)

BillyBones, I have never heard of making an appearance before a judge simply to add or remove a handgun from a PP in NY.  Most PP amendments are handled through the mail or just require you to drop off the amendment forms where your permit was issued.

Just recieved the notice for my Hearing in  a letter postmarked 03/25/05.
Previous hearings,  I have only had to answer the same questions that appear on the amendment form.

My only guess to why the amendment process (in the city of Albany) requires a hearing before a judge is to add a count of perjury if you are found to have lied on the amendment.

The way things are going in Albany, I probably could be considered mentally defective for not having moved (long ago), but in my case I haven't  been medicated for this condition, nor does it interfere with the safe handling of a firearm :^)

My Hearing is scheduled for 9am April 5th, the process still seems to be about a month.

Thanks to everyone who replied to my post. I'm glad to see the hometown boards are alive and well.

Regards
Billy

questions? amendment form?
in Chautauqua County you walk in, say "I need to add a gun to my permit" they take the receipt from the gun store and your permit. type the make, model and caliber onto the back of the permit and in your file, gove you the coupon telling the gunstore they can release the gun and you say thanks and leave
no questions asked
