We had three new guys show up to Sunday's Calverton shoot, so I'm wondering how many more of you are lurking, but afraid to come on out? Can all regulars as well as Newbs sign in, just so I know who to contact in the future? All new new guys who haven't attended one of our shoots should post here so we can try to convince you to show up next time! |
| even though im not the NY mod anymore i still have the email list. I made one for long island and the whole region. Many of the new guys are already on the list like Bill3rail who showed up at the shoot sunday. Just shoot me over the message and I will send it out |

It's in the NYC gun laws that you may transport directly through without stopping. I think you have 24 hours to do so. I know, it doesn't make that much sense, but then again, when did gun laws ever make sense. BTW, I will get my butt motivated to get out to Calverton. If I don't get OT this Easter, maybe I can make it out Sunday. |

Balzac, i havent yet attended a "shoot" but i were there on April 6th. It was Cold and Windy but i had Fun, i brought my FAL. my Mini and my Brand new AR . I believe i met WAVe , if was the Oriental Guy with the NHM91 on a Bipod, i also met the Guy with the Black Ford Explorer. I will be there the week after Easter. |
|
Balzak, I was one of the Newbees on Saturday. I told Liz that I was going out next Sunday 4/20 also. I will be bringing another nephew if he is available (this one wants to buy an AR15). Hoplite already has my Email, but if you need it, shoot me an IM. Bill H. Farmingdale, NY |
i had to fix the picture, it was showing too much for all these innocent NYers |

I'm in Orange County as well... I just can't fathom waking up at 0-dark-30 to drive a couple hours to go to the range, when I can drive down my hill, up another one, and be at the local 200 yard range, 2 miles away Now, if we all gathered at a more civilized hour, like around 11... And yah, as with the other concerns...I don't particularly want to be stopped and have someone look in the back of my jeep and shriek that I'm trying to invade Manhattan or something, PBA card or no. Compounding things is that if some hoodie rat decides he really likes my jeep...I can't quite defend myself down there How long do the Calverton shoots usually last, anyway? I mean, if it's an all day thing...Depending on ammo and time, I've spent whole days at the local range, just poking holes in things. A little practice goes a looong way. |
| I had already gotten myself on Tom's list as well. Calverton is only an hour away for us. As of now, 3 of us and our wives are planning a weekday trip in early May to shoot handguns and rifles. Just how crowded does a warm weather Sunday morning shoot get there? (Fishing is my first love but Sundays on GSB pretty much suck.) Have only fired my own AR once so far, at Mitchell Field in December and am itchin' to have some fun with it and a never fired 35 Marlin. Hoping the wife enjoys it; I bought the AR for the light recoil and years in the USAR I spent qualifying and cleaning. |
I'm usually there all day.. but, the rest of the crew especially wave tend to leave near 12/1 pm. Bunch of wimps! :) By the way, coming from upstate.. you don't drive through manhattan to get to calverton... :) |

PS -Raptor, just lock your mags/ammo away from the weapons and you'll be legal. As long as you don't drive live Wave or Bal[supersonic]zac72 you'll be fine. Also, take 87 over the TZB, then take 287 EAST to the Hutchison River Pkwy, this leads directly to the WHitestone. No passage through Manhattan is necessary Columbus..... |
| I'm here! Riverhead, north of town and 5 minutes from Calverton and 7 minutes from Pine Barrens range. So whose interested in the possibility of having a tactical fun shoot at the Pine Barrens range in Westhampton some time? It would involve some planning ahead and would have to take place on a Saturday and we would need to have some official RO's and a crew to setup props, targets and of course clean up when we finish. If enough are interested Hoplite is trying to get this together and I will talk to the people at the Pine Barrens range. Hmmmmmmmmmm.......... |
Calverton is probably about 1.5-2 hours from the tappan zee depending on traffic etc. Shoot me an email and i will add you to the list -Tom |
Sterling, I'm in White Plains and it's just under 90 mins for me to do the 89 miles to Calverton...if you're not a speed demon, 2 hours would be a safe bet for you. If you decide to make an early run of it (say crossing Westchester by 7-730 we could convoy it out there so you wouldn't have to worry about getting lost. |
| 3 of us have recently started shooting at Calverton every so often. One of the threesome lives near the West Point bridge. Isn't there a public range the equivalent of Calverton up in that neck of the woods? It would just seem fair not to always have one of us making that 2 hour trip. |
Hi, I think our Buddy Raptor22 lives up near newburg. I believe he takes the ride to SunSet hill Range in PA to do his shooting as do some others NYers that I know of. |
That is kind of hard to do in a conversion van with BIG windows.
Sheesh! What kind of a country hick do you think I am?
Actually I am 22 miles west of Newburgh in Middletown. |
Thank you for the offer, I will let you know if I can attend. I will keep you in mind. Thanks again. |

I might have a change of plans, but you guys should consider it also. This weekend the auto show begins, is anyone interested in going on saturday then heading down to little italy or chinatown for dimsum? Ray can be our interpreter. Me and the girlfriend might be going, so bring your fems. |
Balzy, the Xmas Thong picture is more tha I ever want to see of you....though your girlfriend sounds tempting, I'll just keep my clothes on and stay at home thank you. Also, the last time I met Wave in Chinatown for dumplings, we had to take an ITALIAN cop along to order in Cantonese. Our dear Ray is FILIPINO. Unless you want to be served oven-roasted monkey testicles by mistake, do NOT let him order Chinese food for you.

Did they taste like chicken?

I believe there's something in Westchester, near Camp Smith. Peekskill, I think. County run. |
Actually it's a bit south of Smith, off Rt. 9 and Watch Hill Rd. The famouse Blue Mountain Sportsman Center. I worked there 15 years ago....not too bad a place, but the rules are anal, it is often WAY over crowded, and, most of all, it's like a 2 hundred yard walk over trails (paved) to reach the firing lines for pistol and rifle from the parking lot. I'd much rather see if I can make some arrangments at Camp Smith, but that will take some time. In the meantime, I have joined the WaWarsing R&G Club and am waiting for my membership info. I'll pass it along to you guys when I get it. For the record, it's reputed to be very nice and uncrowded AND the dues are $35/ year. NO, I DIDN'T leave off a decimal point....only thirty-five dolars! |
