Will be flying into Ga and traveling from there to Alabama, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico and back to AZ. what rules do I need to be aware of for a handgun in the car? I am from AZ and we have constitutional carry and you can have anything you want in a car. Thanks

Since you are obviously traveling, you have protection under 46.15(b)[2] which lets you carry concealed or unconcealed. This is only valid for traveling.

You are also protected under Texas Motorist Protection Act 46.02, which allows concealed carry in your vehicle.

Keep in mind neither provide relief from GFSZ Act.

Those protections are contingent on not being "engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating".

Yes, I assumed he was picking up or renting a car, and not stealing one.

If you have a carry permit that TX recognizes, then carry away, concealed or open in a holster. If you don't then keep the pistol concealed in your vehicle (loaded or not does not matter, just keep it concealed and you're legal). This is assuming that you are not committing a class A or B misdemeanor or felony at the time you're stopped, and that you're not the member of a "criminal street gang".

Long guns can be visible or concealed in a vehicle, loaded or unloaded, regardless of whether or not you have a license to carry a handgun.

IANAL, but I think it would be more accurate to write, "This is assuming that you are not committing a misdemeanor (other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating) or felony at the time you're stopped".

Even if TX had 100% constitutional carry, I would still maintain a LTC in your home state so that you aren't limited to your car, and hotel rooms here in Texas.

Google Texas carry laws and you'll find good info.
