I'm thinking of attending the High Caliber Gun Show in Houston this weekend. I'm really only in the market for an optic, some range ammo and maybe a sling at the moment. Has anyone attended this show before. I'd like to know if the prices are worth the hassle of driving down there and then paying for entry and parking.

No, this one is at the George R. Brown Convention center in downtown Houston.

I'd like to go but if there aren't any good deals to be had, I'd rather avoid the traffic/expense/hassle of attending.

What type of optic will you be shopping for? I usually only see low end or higher end stuff, not much in between.
I have not bought any ammo at a show in years, so not sure if the prices are reasonable.
You should be able to find a good selection of slings at this show.
All that being said I still go to the Houston shows pretty regular. It's a great way to pass a few hours and occasionally you can find good deals.

I'm trying not to go overboard with the optic. I'm looking at models in the $300-400 range. I am definitely looking for fixed power. I don't plan on shooting the rifle beyond 100 yards often so I don't need much magnification, just help getting on target out past 50 yards or so. So far, I line the Vortex prism 3x, the Burris prism 3x and Primary Arms has a 3 and 5x prism that are slightly cheaper.

Generally,  junk optics at gun shows...

Well, that's a bummer. I need to find a place that has a large selection. I love shopping online, but for an optic I kinda want to handle it and look through it before I commit.

With all the construction in the area, I avoid that area like the plague

Academy and Cabelas have those brands ( Burris and Vortex ) ... stop by,  take a look - get home / don't like it - take it back.

Surprisingly, on a google search - Academy listed the Burris cheaper than others listed.

gun shows were fun in the past .

last one I went to was just plain sad

Might try again going to the big Dallas show or even the big Oklahoma show but the Houston shows are a shadow of the Astrohall shows
