In Plano. Holy cow.

| We got hammered in central TX, too. I'm west of Austin and it hit like a freight train. We got a lot of hail but I don't think it was very big (heard it hitting the side windows on my house). I was worried that my fence was going to get blown over but luckily it's still standing. |

I'm in Dripping Springs... had a heavy dose of hail this morning - 1:00am-ish. No known damage yet. Second time we've been hit in a 7 day span.

Golfball size hail here in wylie for about 5 min. Man I really don't want to do a vehicle check. My son will be devastated when he sees his car tomorrow. We're right on the Murphy/Wylie line, we got quarter-sized at least. Son's car looks like someone went at the hood with a ball peen hammer. |

Checked vehicles this morning and was very impressed with how little damage was on them. My f150 showed very little evidence and my sons new focus has a few large dents. I think the house and privacy fence took brunt force of the storm. Hope all the TX crew is ok and has minimal damage as possible. |

Sorry for y'alls' troubles, This thread has me wondering if I am the only one with a garage who uses it for a vehicle..... Nope. Both of our vehicles are kept in the garage. Years ago I learned the hard way about hail and swore then that I'd never leave vehicles outside again. |

Sorry for y'alls' troubles, This thread has me wondering if I am the only one with a garage who uses it for a vehicle..... Between the wife and I we have 5 cars. Hers stay in the garage, mine are outside. Makes me sick. I had my ding and dent guy take all the dents out of my BMW this past June. It got beat up pretty bad . |
Buddy of mine who owns a dent repair business was working on an idea for hail-proof car covers (to an extent I'm sure). This was years ago, he probably thought better of the idea and prefers the money from fixing the dents now ![]() Anyone take a car cover and sew in padding of some sort? Simple as a moving blanket or something? You see storms in the forecast, throw it on, save the dents? |
|
There are car covers that inflate to protect from hail. I guy I used to work with 5 years ago "invented" one. Seems kind of cool. Unfortunately for me, the cover is worth more than my car.
Hail Protector Standard disclaimer for the doubters: I have no affiliation other than I worked with the guy. Haven't spoken with him in years. |

When I was a teenager, we had a carpet place move into town. I don't remember how I got started or why, but I dumpster dove and had a few rolls of used carpet. It saved my $1500 truck on more than one occasion. Just pulled it up as close as I could to the house, rolled the carpet out on it and tied it down a bit.
Lately I've been using some moving blankets, but I don't have a good way to tie them down. My house in suburbia hell, doesn't have room for a carport. I've been thinking about mounting some removable steel poles (with a hitchpin to hold them in place) stretch a cable between them on top, then use commercial grade shade cloth to make a tent (with hidden anchor points concreted in the ground). The shade cloth would let most of the wind blow through it, but stop the large hail, and it would be all sloping top, tent style, so no hail accumulates on top, it hits and rolls down the sides. I think if it was built right, you could put it up in 15 minutes, take down in about the same amount of time, and other than a few concealed anchor points, the whole thing is taken down and hidden. |

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone, I was just curious. As you can see, some of us own a few vehicles. sometimes I forget that most of you have more money than me. No, I have 3000 cubic feet of useless crap in my garage. (give or take) |

Quoted: I'm in Wylie and somehow my truck managed to only get 2 broken side mirrors and no dents ![]() Still deciding whether or not to claim it on insurance. Car is paid for, so I would use the money for something else. |

Don't have room for a extra carport in the burbs... too much shit in the garage right now so only have one in there (wrangler without a top), other two are outside. I didn't get any hail (N. of Austin) that I could tell (I slept through it anyways) and glad I didn't get any because the only vehicle worth a damn was in the driveway. If I had thought about it I would have put the soft top or safari top on the jeep and tossed it outside and put the Lexus in. |

I feel bad for you guys that got hammered with this storm, but I have a suggestion:
If your roof was damaged but is not leaking, wait until the end of this hail season (End of May?) before having your roof replaced, but call your insurance company now. Also, I have seriously considered Linex-ing my whole truck more than once. The thought of being protected from hail and shopping carts is very tempting, but I have seen the “preparation” required to apply it correctly. I just can't get over using an angle grinder on a $30,000+ truck. Plus what does a body shop do if you are in an accident? Any comments from Linexed jeep owners? |

Had a guy out to look at the roof today; looks like it's trashed. Moved in March 1, new construction. That sucks. At least I got 12 years out of my current one. Pickup is ok 'cause I was out of town, but the 100 little dents in the hood showed when I washed the leaf coating off the wife's SUV. |
