| Going to Amarillo for a few days. Any suggestions on things to do ,places to eat, places to stay?Any parts of town to steer clear of? |

Coyote Bluff has some of the best burgers in town, great cheese fries as well. Get there EARLY or you won't get a seat.
Cowboy Gelatto is another great burger joint. Chef there was trained in Italy to make Gelatto- makes it fresh every couple of days, hundreds of recipes, never the same selection twice. Great burger- cheese cooked IN the patty..... Dyers Barbeque if you like Barbeque. See the Palo Duro Canyon if you have time. Worth a trip to the West Texas AM museum if you have the time. Hell of a nice gun collection including one of Billy Dixons guns and a 20 MM Solothurn on a sled mount! They even have several guns that have been deactivated that the kids can "shoot", as I recall there was a Colt Peacemaker, a Winchester 73, a Sharps .50 and a shotgun of some kind. That poor Colt has been "rebuilt" at LEAST 10 times.....kids love it. Best to stay on the Western end of I40---- east tends to be sketchier- closer to the barrio and all the truck stops...... |

This sums it up well. Skip Big Texan unless you just enjoy tourist traps. Food wasn't very good last time I was there (to be fair, it's been a few years, but I doubt that's changed). Palo Duro is always worth it, but will probably be packed to the gills this time of year. The museum in Canyon is a very good one. If you don't get a chance to hit Coyote Bluff or it's full, Blue Sky is a good burger. Not anything like Coyote Bluff, but a solid enjoyable burger. Canyon has good Thai food if you're down at the museum anyway. |
