The wife and I are looking to buy a chunk of dirt around Waller/Hempstead/Magnolia area, and we want to be able to shoot handguns on it. How big of a piece of the great state of Texas do I have to own to legally do this?

I don't think there is a set size of land unless you are in an incorporated city or in the city limits.

Counties can also place restrictions.

But 50 acres is generally what's required to be safe from the city limits/incorporation thing.

my county is 10 acres, regs are set on population per county..
my county's is 250,000 before things go to the 50 acre rule..may be a rule of thumb?

I'll be long dead before we hit 1/4 million people

I was thinking 10 as well but I may be confused with ag exemption.

I could be wrong, but I thought you needed at least 20 acres to hunt birds on your own land. Hunting birds requires shooting guns.
