Texas Shield - Firearms Legal Defense
I got the info from Open Carry Texas, and it seems like a good deal. Being a CHL holder, it would be nice to be prepared on the legal front should I happen to be unfortunate enough to use my weapon.

Anyone have any experience with this outfit? Just looking for a bit of first hand experience. Seems to be relatively inexpensive for some peace of mind. So if anyone can vouch for these guys, it would be much appreciated.

I haven't had to use it, and I hope I never do...  BUUUUUT...  its a relatively little price to pay for peace of mind, so I have memberships for both myself and my wife...  Better safe than sorry.

It is Texas Law Shield.

I have it.  I know who to call and have my legal defense paid for.

There will be those that will question TLS' integrity, the competence of the lawyers, etc.  Who do they have on speed dial, and how will they pay?

There will always be someone who will question everything...  and that is not necessarily a bad thing...  BUT...  I have never heard anyone say anything even slightly negative about TLS that was based on anything resembling real world personal experience.  As a matter of fact I've never heard anything but good about TLS.

I have the multi-state coverage with TLS.

Cheap insurance that I hope I don't ever have to use.

When I lived in TX I had them.  They are good folks.  Just wish they covered knives.  :-)

You can set up a NFA trust through them also for purchasing class 3 items like SBRs or suppressors. I don't have all the details but apparently it makes it easier to obtain them.  You don't have to deal with the paperwork you would normally have to with local law enforcement, also you can have multiple individuals in the trust. I'm going to look into it more when I have the funds to get a sparrow for my .22.

I have TLS and I also used this service. Not only do they write the trust for you, they also cover you in the event that the ATF gets their panties in a knot about something, either in your trust or in the law. For a one-time fee, hard to beat.

My membership card is in my wallet and I have their number programmed in my phone.

This. Was advertised to us during my CHL class at a nice discount for the first year, kept it each year since.   Also had them do my NFA trust.

They send out their booklet once a year as an easy way to keep up to date on new and changed laws.

Could you elaborate on this?  Reason I ask is the verbage of the law and a knife while carrying concealed is sometimes misunderstood.

I have txlawshield and I was pretty impressed after a few months I called in with a question and was transferred to an attorney.  After answering my question we shot the breeze for twenty minutes on gun stuff and after I hung up I looked him up on the website.  It was the owner.  Their NFA program is worth it and I have never had an issue with my paperwork.

I had my wife call TX law shield from jail after I got arrested on the hotline on the off chance they could help.

At that time there was a threat to also press felony charges relating to my handgun.

It was late at night.  They counseled my wife as to what was going on and stuck around to see what charges were brought against me.

When charges were only about the knife, DEA or ADEA dropped or ignored the felony charges pertaining to the handgun they were still nice\helpful.

I got the best layer in town for what was happening on my own dime William B Manage in Austin.  (He understood the law better than the many other lawyers I contacted)

Just over half of the $5,000 fees were graciously reimbursed to me by fellow gun owners on this forum and Texas Gun Talk donating and helping out that I'm still very appreciative of.

Texas Gun Trust were part of the good guys\gals even in this crazy situation and well worth the small monthly fee.

That's a good reference for them just for having someone there to talk your wife thru a stressful evening..

Sounds like you went outside their services to get your own attorney however.

This outfit set up my NFA trust and were a pleasure to deal with. However I think I would look to my own resources to get the best lawyer in town, just like the fellow in the above post did, if it were my keester on the line.

That was matefrio?  I remember hearing of this around coffee one morning in a local gun store hence my reply.  Went back and read the official thread just now.  Much respect for how you went about that and hung in there.

They're great. I call them with legal questions all they time and they're glad to help.
I'll be working in D.C. for a few months and they let me know that my CCW is good to go in Virginia, and I am defended there by their representation through the multistage coverage.
