Anyone brave enough to bear the heat for a dove hunt? How is hunting this year? |
|
We we're yesterday.
It was sad 50 hunters on a full section, half planted in sunflowers...less that 100 birds in the morning, less than that in the afternoon. Video for two weeks ago show the place covered in dove. On the phone right now with a different buddy, that hunted a different area last year...they limited out in 20 minutes |
|
I will swear to my grave, doves KNOW when season starts. Usually day before or day season starts I will notice a massive influx of doves moving in to city limits.
Call me crazy, but when you can't hunt them you can get your limit in 20 min. When season starts your lucky to get 5 in 8 hours |

We hunted Coleman Sunday. Saw quite a few birds flying on adjacent properties. Our deer lease didn't have any planted fields, we hunted a couple ponds that the birds flew over.
We got 19 Sunday morning and 46 that evening - 4 hunters We left out Monday morning but didn't hunt as the weather turned nasty as a storm came though. Birds were flying everywhere though. |

Hunted yesterday. Morning wasn't great (4 birds), but the afternoon was better. I put out mo-jo doves decoys in the afternoon. I think that helped. I swear those damn things work! Had several groups come down on top of the mojo doves we had set up. That and we put some stationary dove decoys in trees boarding where we were set up. |

I sat down the dentist chair this morning and just happened to be wearing camo walking shorts.
The 23 year old flaky, young blonde dental assistant with 5 piercings in one ear and about a half dozen assorted bracelets on, asked me if I hunt. I was getting ready for "oh this is not gonna be a fun visit to the dentist". I told her I did a little deer hunting and she launched into her dove hunting escapades from over the weekend. She shoots a 12 ga Browning automatic and she only took 2 birds off 3 different properties around Waxahachie, Wilmer and Lancaster. Curious, I prodded a bit more, she mentioned some other kind of shotgun she had used, but couldn't remember the name. "Benelli?" I inquired? She informed me, no, she couldn't afford that, mainly just the Browning. The girl seemed to know her stuff. |
