This probably has already been discussed here but with a change in Texas knife laws recently.
What is the maxium length, carrying a fixed blade on or about your person? If my memory serves me correctly 5.5 in. Must it be carried open or can you conceal in line with current state laws? With the new change for switch blades, it has sparked my interest. I remember there was a recent member aquitted for unlawful carry of a prohibited weapon. I wouldn't want to have his experience unwittingly or because of ignorance. Thanks in advance for your feedback. Regards Bishop3 |

Thanks in advance for your feedback. Regards Bishop3 The member you reference was not arrested for a prohibited weapon, it was unlawful carry of a weapon, an illegal knife. He was not acquitted, the DA dismissed the case without trial. Texas law defines two types of knives, illegal knives and switchblades. Penal code 46.01 Since switchblades are going off the list in 46.05 Sept 1, I will only discuss illegal knives. Illegal knives are knives with a blade over 5 and one half inches, a hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown, and a sword, spear, dirk, dagger, stiletto, poniard and Bowie Knife. Penal code 46.02 makes it unlawful to carry illegal knives except on your own premises or premises under your control, or inside of or directly enroute to a motor vehicle you own or is under your control. 46.15 (b) gives instances when the above does not apply. 46.03 tells you places you cannot take illegal knives pretty much at all. It is all spelled out in the guide I wrote for you stickied at the top of the Texas Home Town Forum. Fixed blades are not specifically addressed, nor is the open or concealed status. |
