I am just getting into reloading and want to pick up small quantities of various components when trying new loads.  Where do you go in the metroplex for a good selection of primers and powders?

Is there a Cabela's (or equivalent) near you? Those types of places usually have a large variety of components. The prices are not as good as you will find online but if you are buying small quantities then buying locally is the only option since the HAZMAT shipping fees for powder and primers will kill any savings online.

Southwest Ammunition Supply
206 West Davis Street  Mesquite, TX 75149

They don't have a website, only open Wed, Thurs, Fri and Sat last time I checked.

There is a Cabela's, but it is about an hour away. That was my fall-back plan if I couldn't find anything better.   Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up on SAS. I will check them out.

I live in Burleson and the closest place I know of that has any kind of selection is Cabelas.

I haven't been there in awhile, but Gunmasters in Plano usually has (had) a decent supply of power, primers, and bullets.

Tagged for interest on suggestions.

I just got in the reloading game myself

The Cabela's in Allen/McKinney is about 20 minutes from my house, while the Ft. Worth store is about 30 - 45 mins away (depending on how crazy it is around
the north end of the airport).

I just dropped $1k on a whole new reloading setup at the Allen store. They had everything on my shopping list in stock, but like others said the pricing was a tad on the high side compared to online prices.

I can' afford to buy more than a box or two of primers at a time, so by the time I pay for hazmat on the shipping, I don't feel bad paying the higher price. Same with powder.

Bullets, equipment, that's a different story, but the guy in Mesquite has always been pretty helpful, so I don't mind paying a slightly higher price in exchange for some helpful advice.

The Metroplex is a big place, I'm not sure I'd be willing to travel all over town to find components. Besides some of the previously mentioned places ...

I live in Azle, no place here in town to buy components, but Gibsons and Lone Star Gallery in Weatherford both have decent selections of powder and primers.  Elk Castle also has a good selection.  In the mid cities Euless Guns & Ammo has a decent selection.

As far as bullets, I don't even try to find them locally.  Midway gets my business here.  The exception is cast bullets, which I mainly order direct from places like Laser Cast or Matt's bullets.

Cabela's isn't ideal for me, due to the distance.  I am down by Joe Pool lake, and it's kind of a wash paying hazmat vs making the trip just for small powder/primer.  I drive up there a couple times a year for various reasons, but I'm not sure I would make the drive just to save hazmat on a small order.

Alpine is close to you and they have powder and primers.

Alpine Shooting Range has a very good selection of primers, powder and gun cleaning equipment.
They've got "some" bullets, brass and loading dies too.
