The range link isn't working so I figured I'll ask.

Driving to Houston/Galveston area sunday and the Fiancee's dad wants to go shooting. He just moved there and hasn't looked into it much, so I figured I'd ask the heads here.

Just wanting to shoot AR's and pistols, prefferably outside, and public/free would be best.

Southeast Houston (down I 45 towards Galvaston) has The Arms Room, right off the highway. I am very new to the area and do not know much about it, other than it is there. Good luck.

But that is an inside range. I know there is an outside range on 280 between cypress and Chappell hill, but not the name or if it is open to the public, sorry.

I don't know of any free ranges in the area.

What side of Houston? Galveston?

Never been to this one: http://www.texas-city-tx.org/ShootingRange/index.php In Texas City

Another one:  http://clearcreekgunrange.com/  League City

If you have been able to shoot for free or minimal cost, these are going to seem expensive. It is all relative.

Not any free ranges to shoot at anywhere near Houston I believe.
Long range outside ranges are usually Private Ranges that need a membership, such as Bayou Rifle Club,or  PSC Range in Pearland.

There is the American Shooting Center range, which has out to 600 yard or so ranges.  It's on Westheimer Parkway on the west side of the county.  Decent range, can have some nazi-ish RSO's at times.

The Cypress outdoor range is Hot Wells.   It's open to the public daily.  Has short range pistol, and 25/50/100 yard rifle ranges.

I'm not sure of any ranges toward Galveston beside The Arms Room, and that's only because I've seen it on the trip down to the island.
