So I want to print out an image to make a big poster for a sporting event.. Does anyone know where to go for something like that? I literally have no idea.

Any sign shop, graphic design studio, and some printing companies have wide format inkjet printers.

FedEx Kinkos will do it, but it ain't cheap depending on the size you want and what exactly you want (actual poster, or banner).

They won't show the price for banners, only posters, which start at $40 for 18x24".

If you can keep the size to 11x17 or 12x18, it's a lot cheaper for small runs. Less than $2. The only way to come out cheap on larger posters is volume, think like 5000 -10000 copies, otherwise yeah, $40 at kinkos.

One Hour Business Cards in Richardson can do 12x18, then do a 1/4" trim to bleed, it looks pretty good.

Engineering firms have drum plotters that can make color plots on 44" wide sheets.  We charge $10 for a paper color map on ours just to cover the material costs.
