In Texas it is recommended you do not hunt alligator in Texas without a hunting license, and never with rimfire ammo, and onky on private property. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CGEQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tpwd.state.tx.us%2Fpublications%2Fpwdpubs%2Fmedia%2Fpwd_bk_w7000_1011.pdf&ei=Q8S-T8LMJ-Hq2AXIx7mjCg&usg=AFQjCNHdqVafcBOSUSE5sBpUNrIO1pfVIw |
| If it's a waterhole or tank I'd try and catch him napping and nail him or hang a bait Swamp People style. If you headshoot it while it's in the water it's going to sink, swell up and float and you're going to have to fish him out and deal with a stinking lizard in hot weather. Meanwhile, wildlife, livestock have to drink that water. |

I recall a post similar to mine regarding the legality of shooting these guys. It's on private property. |

Maybe it's just me, but what's the question? Yeah I worded it poorly because I knew I was going to get some legal mumbojumbo'd response. No offense of course to anyone, I actually appreciate the concerns. Basically what would be an appropriate type of 22LR. Like, specialty, brand etc etc |

The document TxI linked to specifically says "No Rimfire", no legal mumbo jumbo, its plain as day and plain old English. So the answer is to use something centerfire. .223 Rem would be good to go as would 5.7x28 or just about anything else like that... |

Make sure you follow the law. You don't want to end up like Keyon, Son Of Obama, who along with his friend killed an 11 foot alligator a few weeks ago while "fishing" at the Fort Worth Nature Center.
Keyon, Son Of Obama, says he used "artillery" that he carries to kill the alligator SEE UM, WHAT HAPPENED WAS THERE BE THIS LOG, AND IT STARTED TO MOVES. SO WE DUN SHOT IT AND THEN JUMPED OUTTA DA' BOAT
Two hood rats go a fishin' He told dispatchers that Miller then shot the alligator with “artillery” that he keeps with him. “I mean we keep this little rifle for snakes and stuff like that, but we weren't expecting this,” Ivory said. “How did something like that get in this little-bitty pond?” Game wardens issued Miller two citations for hunting by illegal means and methods and for not having a hunting license. Ivory received two citations for having insufficient personal flotation devices and for having an unregistered vessel. Neither Miller nor Ivory responded to messages seeking comment Thursday. According to their Facebook profiles, both are disc jockeys who live in Fort Worth. |

That would meet the letter of the law. |
