I have had 2 1911's worked by him. The first took 8 weeks, the second took 2 weeks. The first pistol was dropped off when he wasn't gunsmithing full time. Now he is doing it full time, hence the quicker turn around.
He does EXCELLENT work, couldn't be happier with the work he has done for me. My only complaint is, I wish he had some better finishes, he only Parkerizes or Gunkotes his firearms. I wish he re-blued guns. Also, cash only. |

Ive been told that vanderberg is one of the few master gunsmiths in the state or holds some kind of special, elusive qualification in gunsmithing that not many people hold.
Ive heard that his specialty is in 1911's and thats where he shines, but i do know that he works on all types and varieties of guns and can do anything you would expect from a gunsmith. I have never used the guy, but everyone that i know that has, said good things about him. For 1911 specific work, i use Eddie Jiminea in sugarland. Hes a small time guy that works from home and is basically a reference only kind of guy. You have to know someone who knows him in order to track him down since he doesnt advertise. His genius is really with high cap 1911 race guns, but really hes amazing with all 1911's, like the best smith ive met, and ive met some pretty friggin awesome gunsmiths. |

Quoted: nick, vandenburg is off hwy 3 almost to clear lake. el camino, camino real, something like that. he is a master 'smith so i would assume he wouldn't destroy my gun, necessitating a refinish, correct? maybe i'll suck it up an go sacs. put it all on the amex! Ed is right across Elington airfield on the west side of Hwy. 3 in stirp center, you need access to enter. He has done work on a .45 for me as well as a trigger job on my colt custom shop AR. He is a great person to deal with and an excellent gunsmith to boot. |

bgibbs, looking into slicking up a couple of 1911s. will probably order some c&s parts from brownells and if that goes south then off to vandenburg i go.
more specifically, i have an NM compact i bought from bachman in 1990 that has less than wonderful sights. will probably de-ils the springers myself though. |
| Ed's shop isn't by Ellington anymore, but close to El Dorado off HWY 3 in the industrial units. He's the best in Houston IMO. I do quite a bit of business with him and trust him fully to do the job right every time. He is in the American Pistolsmiths Guild, which is pretty damn exclusive. Only 100 people are in it at any given time. |
