I left work in the Grove yesterday about 6:30pm. My babysitter canceled on me this week, so I had my 2 year old son and my 7 year old daughter with me. We park in a fenced area I share with the city offices, so I'm always vigilant, but usually not too worried. We got in our car, drove to the gate, opened/closed without incident and went home.
I took my daughter to school today, stopped and got doughnuts with my son and off to work we go. Pull into work and see a DPD car at the city offices next door. Not too unusual. We get settled into the office, it's a family business, so my Dad takes my son to go do whatever, and I make rounds. I stop by the city offices to see what's up. It's bad. Their buildings were broke into and cleaned out to the tune of about $45k in tools and equipment. Looks like they cut through the fence on their side, then cut the lock off their pos gate. It's happened before on a smaller scale, I always try to be helpful, so I offer to review my security camera footage in case we've captured something useful. They said from their cameras they can tell the thieves came in early and cut thier video cables. So I check my camera video. 20 minutes after I leave, 2 dudes in hoodies are on my side checking open buildings and checking the locks on my secured buildings, even shining flashlights into the windows of my main building to see what they can find. They don't break anything or take anything, then they disappear back to the city side where the real loot was. They spent 8 hours stealing equipment from their buildings! And made more than one trip. Their only screw up was driving around at 2am in the back and driving into a tree! Their van wouldn't start, so they tore the vin tags off and left it. Police are confident there is a usable vin elsewhere on the vehicle. I'm just a bit freaked out. My car isn't visible where I parked it. If we had screwed around 20 minutes longer, I would have walked into the guys going to my car with my kids. Then God only knows what could have happened. I don't like being this close to the action with my kids in tow. I don't know if we were somehow being watched, or we just happened to have missed it. I won't sleep well tonight. We changed and fixed a bunch of stuff today, more coming tomorrow and next week. Even randomly popped by this evening. I'm sick of this shit. I |

Thieves should be summarily hanged by the nearest tree until they are dead. |

I Brother, if at all possible you need to move and change jobs. The longer you stay in that place the higher the chance something will happen to you or your family. Statistically the probability goes up every day. Get out. |

You know, it would cost you about 30 bucks a month to feed a couple of mean dogs. I'm just saying. Yeah, my stray I took in a couple of months ago isn't a good barker. I'm really missing my blue heeler right now. He would have kicked ass and taken names. He was one mean SOB who loved me. |
