I didn't see a "Newb Introductions" forum/thread like most msg boards I'm on, so I thought I'd post in the next logical forum... :o
My name is Dylan and I live in Round Rock, which is basically just North Austin (equiv of Plano to Dallas). I grew up in North Dallas, however I have lived in and around Austin for about 11 years. Love it here (for the most part). Although I probably look the part to most, I am not your average Austin flaming liberal. Just sayin. I'm into guns, knives, cars/bikes, gadgets and cameras (my Website). I'm always game to meet up and go shoot guns, or the poo. lol... I've been a member here for a while now (should be a Team Member soon), however due to my lack of funds to purchase my first AR, I haven't really posted at all. Well, now I own one and am jumping in! Yesterday I met up with Brad (thepinkmist) from Waco and purchased his DTI Middy (great guy, would do business with him anytime). It's my new baby and I am in love. I have done some minor mods, and many more are planned for the not-to-distant future. I. Can't. Wait. Rifle Specs, per Brad: 16 inch mid length chrome lined hbar 1x9 twist upper YHM low profile gas block YHM quad rail YHM phantom compensator magpul ACS stock Pics: This was right after I bought her yesterday: http://visualoddity.com/Charlene/78193e66160811e180c9123138016265_7.jpg This was last night (sorry for the crappy, late night, poor light, cell phone pics). Did some minor mods. Removed the scope and gave to a friend who needed it. In exchange, he gave me his Red Dot + Magnifier. Then I added the Tactical Light with cable and button attached to lower for index finger operation... I love this AR. Still pretty giddy like 27 hours later... <3 http://visualoddity.com/Charlene/9dbf3bbe165f11e1a87612313804ec91_7.jpg http://visualoddity.com/Charlene/89363378165f11e180c9123138016265_7.jpg http://visualoddity.com/Charlene/6e06e098165f11e19896123138142014_7.jpg http://visualoddity.com/Charlene/429b4d04165f11e180c9123138016265_7.jpg |

welocome back to Texas Thank You! But, I never left... lol Quoted:
Welcome! Lots of good folks here. Thank You! From everything I can tell, it certainly seems like it... Quoted:
Welcome. Have you shot your AR yet? Thank You. Yep, I have. When I purchased this from Brad, we met at Red's in PVille and I put a box of Rem 2.23's through it to test it out. Fired flawlessly and felt GREAT. Love it! Quoted:
what additional mods are in your future? Most definitely an aftermarket 2 stage trigger setup (assuming I am saying that correctly). Possibly a laser sight, but not sold on that one yet. Magpul AFG and a different stock. Throwing around the idea of earth tone hand guards, mag, stock and grip. Once I win the lottery, a nice EOTech sight. Sling. Maybe some internals once I learn more about what everything is and how it interacts. And so on... SO many options! Which is one reason I love these so much... :) Quoted:
There will be a Texas tactical carbine match on Sunday, 12/04/11, at the Austin Rifle Club in Manor TX. Set up time is at 0800 and sign up time is at 0900 and we start shooting at 1000 and the match lasts until 1300+ depending on how many show up. Match fee is $25 and you don't need or have to sign up to be a member of the range to participate. If you decide to go try to arrive early so you can be on my squad. Look for my truck or if you get there late I will be the only one there shooting a black AUG type rifle. Pics of truck and rifle http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo157/Furyataurus/006-6.jpg[/rl] My baby http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/oo157/Furyataurus/012-2.jpg[/ul] What you will need: Rifle w/sling (if you don't have a sling be prepared to shoot your handgun one handed if you have to retain your rifle to finish a stage for transitions) Minimum 5 magazines Handgun handgun holster 3 handgun magazines 2 handgun magazine holders Ammo: Rifle - 100 minimum but bring more just incase you have to reshoot a stage or two Handgun - 20 minimum but bring more just incase your rifle actually does go down and you need to finish a stage with your handgun. You don't need to wear tactical clothing. Jeans will be just fine and a comfortable shirt. It might be cold so prepare for that as well. Oh and my name is Rudy. Thanks for the invite, Rudy! I'll try to make it out (bit ify right now), I doubt I'll be shooting though. Right now, the AR is my only weapon. Selling my Mossberg partly funded the AR, so no more shotgun, and I sold my Glock a year or so ago. I could probably borrow my friend Matt's pistol and shotgun, but I'm not used to either of them (or the AR) enough to go shoot a match lol... Maybe soon though. How often do they have these matches in Manor? That's a LOT closer than Liberty Hill... Also, that AUG style rifle looks SICK!!! ;) |

Welcome Dylan.
Most noobs follow the correct procedures to let us know they are new. This is usually accomplished by starting threads like 9.. vs 45? What AR15 is best? I want a scope that will see into the future so I can tell where my .223 will hit at 5000 yards for under $100.00 Just pick a topic, ask and hang on. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. If anyone asks if you want to pet a red goat- don't do it! Jim |

Another is that any "Which xxxxx is best?" thread will end in drama... lol Now, about this red goat... Quoted:

Thanks! I think Rule #1 is a given on any msg board, or at least all the ones I post on. Especially in certain situations... ;) As for Rule #2; I'm married, so I need very little advice, however, a rescue or two might be expected...
Thanks for the links, I'll go check em out in a few minutes... Quoted:
Carbine matches in Manor occur the 1st Sunday of every month. Awesome! Are these always 3-gun matches, or are some Rifle/Carbine Only? |
|
These are just rifle/carbine only. Mainly rifle with one or two handgun transition stages thrown in. Sometimes you'll start out with rifle then transition to handgun and then transition back to rifle to finish the stage. Other times you start out with handgun first and then transition to rifle.
3-gun only happens on the 5th Saturday of the months that have 5 Saturday's. Which there happens to be a 5th Saturday in Dec but since that's new years eve and everyone will be getting drunk.........I'm not sure if Mike will put one on. The next 5th Sat.'s will be March, June, September and December 2012. |

Don't forget to attend the dinners in the Austin area on the third Saturday of each month. Details can be found in the TX forum. In! Thanks! How many people would you say go on average? Quoted:

My only issue will be that at this time I do not own a handgun. lol I also need to get used to my AR. I am finding it hard to get good form and get my eye behind the site completely. Must be my big head and long neck. It's like a hippo and giraffe made a baby. I can get behind it if I tilt my head quite a bit, but not with a more or less straight on view. Example below. And yes, I know, my elbow is up high like a chicken wing. This was the first time I shot an AR (Roadrnr's in fact), however I learned my lesson, no more of that crap...
