Question for LEOs. Is there anything against transporting a bolt action rifle that is lock-disabled and locked in a case, into Texas in a car with ammo (locked in a seperate case), in the same storage area (trunk), inaccessable by the only occupant (driver)? If one is in the back seat with the other in the trunk?

One doesn't need to be an LEO to know that you can carry your bolt action rifle unlocked, outside the case with the magazine fully loaded and a round chambered once you cross the state line into Texas. It doesn't even need to be "out of plain sight" like a handgun does.

Just make sure you aren't displaying it in a "manner calculated to cause alarm", in other words, don't go pointing it at people or otherwise threatening people and you should be good to go.

It is perfectly legal, for example, to keep a loaded rifle in a rear window gun rack in a truck here in Texas.  People just don't do it so much anymore due to thievery.  Handguns must be kept concealed under normal circumstances.

Yep, just load it up and put it on the passenger seat.
That's where my AR rides.

I keep a WASR 10 under the bench seat of my truck. It could come in handy if things go wrong but it's mostly useful for impromptu shoots at a buddy's house.

But, isn't a waiver for being a yankee automatically granted to the military?

It matters not.  This is Texas, not some mamby-pamby blue state like Illinois or something!

You can carry any long gun you want to in your vehicle. Damn, you can even have a gun rack mounted on the back window of your truck loaded up with long guns and it is perfectly legal. Not too many people do it these days though because of all the shit bags that would break into your truck. When I was in high school there were guys that would have a gun rack at school with shotguns etc, if you can believe that.

Im a yankee, but I get a buy cause I have my own black rifle store and build machine guns. I also drive a truck and have a bass boat. Some of the local guys indoctrined me into the society of Texans who love guns, trucks, full auto weapons and bass boats. So Im good now no bumper sticker needed
