State says 6-8 weeks I've heard about some getting it back sooner and some later. Guess it just depends

Takes much longer if you don't apply, take the class and turn in your paperwork.

Mine took a less than 2 months.

We will see how long it takes the husband to get his back. The completed applications were mailed the same day.

I wonder if mine arriving first was related to me having already passed a background check for the state when I applied for my TX RN license?

It feels great!

So now you are required by Texas law to denounce your former state of Illinois.

Exactly.

I just had a full background check done by the state of Texas in February. I am sure they ran it again to make sure I hadn't been doing anything in the last 3 months but all of the previous data should have been already in their system.

Of course, I am assuming they keep files on individuals once you are employed in a profession that requires background investigations. This may be wrong.

My wife and I sent our applications in on the same day in mid March.  She got hers in the mail last week and mine is still yet to be seen.

The website shows its still pending background check and fingerprints(sent electronically).

Texaschlforum says the site isn't updated like it should be, so its just waiting I guess.

This has taken entirely too long, if you ask me.

DPS CHL bureau, when they receive your application, runs a TCIC, NCIC and queries the Texas AGs office.  Your file is then sent to the DPS office in the county/counties where you have lived worked.   A DPS employee goes into the county/district clerks offices in those areas and they conduct criminal and civil checks.  For civil records they check for divorces with restraining orders and protective orders.  Your mental history, if any, is also investigated.  The query the tax accessors office also.

The results of that investigation is sent back to DPS in Austin, where your license is then ordered.

Unless you were checked in Feb by the CHL bureau, they had no information from your previous search.

One of the eligibility requirements is that you cannot have been adjudicated as a juvenile for felony grade delinquent conduct....so yes.

I did my class the last weekend of Feb in '09, sent off the paperwork that Monday. I didn't get my license until mid June of '09. I had to redo my picture.

Mine took 41 days from mailing in the packet to Austin to having the plastic in my wallet.  Took the class and mailed my things in June 2010.

I got mine right at two months from the paper work being sent in to a card in my wallet.

Great information, thank you!

I had made the erroneous assumptions that DPS had access to all background checks done by the state and would use that resource. My mistake.

Another thing to love about arfcom is the depth of resources available here.

Right now I have an XD Subcompact in 9mm. I would like to also have a single stack 9mm.

Our house in Illinois needs to sell for me to be able to justify buying additional guns just for carry.

Congrats!!

I want to get mine finally but I had an arrest for Public Intox (on 6th Street) like 10 years ago and it was dismissed in court by the judge for lack of evidence. It says I have to list ALL arrests and I have NO idea where I'm supposed to check for the details of that arrest.

You can request your record from Austin. You might be able to go online and request it. Might take a few weeks, knowing them.
