The big yellow ones....and Becky agrees.

I honestly don't know....but I would hazard to guess the ones that produce a lot of oily seeds.  They seem to like millet too.

Okay so can I go buy a 40 pound bag of the black oil sunflower seeds and just till them into the ground?  Will that work?

Thank you!  I could not for the life of me remember the name of the particular sunflower seed.  I used to buy them for my birdfeeder....the mourning doves would come and eat up whatever spilled from the feeder and landed on the ground.

I think you could do that.  Personally I have had absolutely no success planting the roasted and salted sunflower seeds my wife brings home.

ETA:   Yes, Becky hit me in the back of the head when she read that.

You can buy the 25 bags at the local wal mart. I didn't know if they were the ones.

Been so dry around here that nothing will grow, weeds won't even take off right now. I just plan on spreading the seeds semi-evenly out on some plowed ground and draging  a pipe drag over them. It shouldn't bee to hard   to plant weeds

Chris and I love to dove hunt but its getting so hard to find hunting  spots we just decided to make our own. I figure about 20 acres may bring some in for us...

We tried the black oil sunflower seeds at a friend's property and didn't have any luck.  But I think it was too dry already and we didn't get any rain later.  Actually I think we just spread them out using a four wheeler, probably would have helped to till up the soil with the tractor.    We need some damn rain soon or all the dove will stay in the city where they can find water and food.

I have a spot of about 25 acres that I workd up last fall intending to plant native grass on this spring, but with no moisture  and the price of the seep I think I will wait a year. so, dove food goes in.

May add some millett and milo to the mix for good measure.

Also have about 40 acres of wheat that may not pay to cut, if not I will just let it stand until season. That should bring them in!!
