Anyone here going, competing, been?

I'm thinking about getting a group of friends together to go. Planning on pulling the camper trailer along with a generator so we'll have a decent, cool place to sleep.

I've never been before, a few friends have. Kinda curious about how much of a pain is it to pull an RV in there? Theft? Planning to lock anything loose down, chain and lock generator, etc.

I think a few of my friends have a team/teams so hopefully I can smuggle in a healthy supply of in on friday while it's BYOB.

The entertainment lineup looks pretty awesome this year, especially Saturday.

I'm a student at A&M, so I'll be going.  I've never been before.  Last year's line up looked even better, but that my just be because I'm a huge Dwight Yoakam fan.

Chilifest is good times. But it seems to rain alot that time of year and can be a tad muddy.

Been a couple of times.  Friday night gets pretty crazy.  Haven't ever tried bringing an RV, always just slept on an old couch or in the car.  Didn't even know there was a Chili contest going on first year I went.

I'm pretty into the whole Texas music scene. Psyched to see everyone except Dierks Bentley on Saturday and I'm looking forward to Charlie Robison, Sean McConnel(amazing songwriter), and Cody Johnson friday. I went to school with Cody Johnson's bass guitar player.... I've been hitting up the bars a good bit for the last 6 months or so when someone good is playing and Cody Johnson is one of THE BEST entertainers I've seen.

I am pretty sure that they will not let you bring a RV inside the event area where you set-up.  The spots are very small to began with anyway.

I went last year and had a great time. If you are on a team it is better because the real party is fri night. I slept in my bivvy bag because it was too crowded for a tent but YMMV. Bring hand sanitizer and baby wipes along with plenty of beer. I would pack some warm clothing as well. It is gonna be a hike from the parking area to your team's spot, so pack light.

I've got 4x4 and a big strap. Sounds like easy money pulling people out.

I've been to a few, 99-02.  Good times.  Don't know if my gut or head could take the punishment now though.

Better hope it doesn't rain or it'll be a mudfest. Also, be careful. And, there are always a lot of arrests... The three biggest things are people who pee in public, drive while intoxicated (after they leave) or people who sneak in without paying. I see these come up in court a couple of months after the event every year...

This is what we're pushing our team to realize this year.  We've got 61 on our team with ~15 from San Marcos.  We are going to try to get a 15 passenger van rented for the weekend and have a sober driver get us back.  Isn't there something about not being able to ride in truck beds starting this year?

Are y'all planning on getting a couple of spots?  The Team spots that you setup in are pretty damn small from what I remember.

The college of Ag used to have a chili cookoff off campus every year when I was there. We'd get 200 - 300 people, including our professors. It was BYOB and we ended up getting our advisor/professor drunk one year. We weren't allowed to bring kegs after that.

Some of my friends who entered one year, pulled out a big pot, dumped in a few cans of Wolf brand chili and started drinking.

Good times.

From the info posted on the site you can only have 35 people on a team max. Just FYI.

Right you are Ken, we have two teams right next to each other.  Dirty Pirate Hookers 1 and Dirty Pirate Hookers 2.  We are going to go early to get back to back spots next to each other.  Not too far away now.

Chilifest is awesome.  I went in 2009 and will be going again this year.  If you are underage be very careful drinking.  Tons of police presence.  They have a judge set up on site to arraign individuals.  Did I mention how much fun it is?  I can't wait for it this year.

I used to live down from the ol "starlight ballroom".  Traffic is horrible.  However, one year 2 couples approached me, gave me 20 bucks to ride in the back of the truck to the front of the event

From my understanding they have an RV only lot across the road. Gotta check the generator I plan to use soon to make sure it has a 220v plug to run the a/c on the camper, and that it will fit in the bed of the truck with the camper hooked up for the ride home.

Curious about Saturday though. why do they start at 10am and end it at 7pm? I'm thinking that after a day of drinking there's still going to be a party going on with or without tunes.

Also I didn't get on a team with anybody but some friends are so I'm gonna smuggle a few cases of beer in with them friday
