| Just completed a round trip from Sherman to McKinney, just about got to the office when they shut down Collin County Govt. offices. Not bad going in, not much worse coming home. Typical slow and steady makes it thru and the idiots driving like road conditions are normal end up in the ditch. |
| Frankly I can't believe the majority of school districts decided to close today. The roads were not as bad as they were last week. If buses and regular vehicles would take it steady at a reasonable speed, the schools could be operating on a delayed opening rather than just closing entirely. It's getting pretty ridiculous in my opinion that for even the most minor hint of snow the schools are ready to shut down. |

Snowpocalypse redux has closed down UT Arlington again This day just got turned unproductive ![]() SMU is open as normal today. This storm sucks because its all ice and sleet here in Dallas, very little snow. I had planned on going skiing again if we had at least 2-3 inches. Guess that is not happening. |

Made two attempts to make it to work today. First attempt: Made it out of the hilly area that I live in and just as I was entering the state highway, the ramp was blocked by a dark SUV that had spun out and wound up with the front end off the road and the back end still on the ramp. I started to skid on the same ice as I steered around him but was able to recover. I decided to get back onto the access road to assess driving conditions a little more because traffic just seemed to be zooming past me. It was a wise decisions because a few miles up the road, there was a pile up with what I can only assume was the same pack of cars that had zoomed by me earlier. Since this pile up blocked my only access out of town and my way to work, I turned around and slowly drove back home. Fast forward 2 hours later: Attempt #2 I dropped my son off at his school bus stop and it looked like traffic was moving fairly well, so I returned home to gather up some gear and head to work. Bad decision! As soon as I hit the hilly roads that is the main thoroughfare through town, I fish tailed a few times on black ice. Not in the mood to tempt fate, I turned around to go home once more. The rising sun did nothing to help the icy roads and the freezing drizzle only got worse. I'm glad I decided not to go any farther then I had. I'll just sit at home burning vacation time rather then taking a chance on wrecking my car/ getting injured/ putting EMS and or police at risk pulling my ass out of a ditch because I was too stupid to stay off the icy roads. |

Sorry...I drop my kid off at school every morning....steady and reasonable are the last two things I say to describe driver behavior near the schools! |

After 5 days of no water last week and fixing 45 ft. of water line I shut it off last night. I'm about to go to the out house by one of the deer cabins. I hate cold weather. Good thing the new "bunk house" got delivered Mon. My neighborhood is solid ice again. I've seen one car go by and thats it. I think the cold water line to my washing machine is busted, water is barely trickling out. Gonna have to crawl under the house and look. |

<Sigh> I made it on time to work today with no problem. I have lost my faith in my fellow Texans. got to work at five am this morning (25 mile commute) so one of your fellow Texans has once again cheated death. Actually, I slipped and fell as I was reaching for the door knob at work

About a dozen in the ditch or median, on 75, at 6am or so, all with Oklahoma plates, 4wd pickups. The Sherman airport and water plant had about 3" of packed snow on the road. Prosper was about the worse on the trip home. My 2wd pickup with bald tires did fine both ways....although the windshield did freeze up around Van Alstyne. mm |

I just moved down to College Station from Ohio. I have to say, the way people handle "cold" down here is rather amusing. Oh look! Our newest Aggie Sociologist
ETA: Not the best 1st post
There used to be a pedestrian bridge that went over the railroad tracks on campus. It was like 4 stories tall. Excellent for Aggie winter sports when it iced over.

Wish we could do that where I work, lockem down and check back tomorrow, haha. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |
