| How much does it cost, and how much time does it take to become a TX CHL instructor? |

$100 plus 40hr class in Austin. That's providing you are already either a TCLEOS certified instructor on NRA pistol instructor. I did not require either of those certifications to become a CHL instructor. I believe if you DO have the TCLEOSE cert you can take a shortened version of the instructor class that is 28 hours. That was 4 years ago when I took my class....that may have changed. |

I was wondering why I got the condensed class. Never really thought much about it though. So, what's covered in the 40hr class over the 28hr class? Safety, Gun care and storage, firearms handling? It is SUPPOSED to be "how to teach". Like a mini- instrutor's course. |

Yeah, Austin. There was some discussion of having the initial in Austin and then renewals would be done by "traveling DPS trainers". I'm not sure how much traction that will get though. They been saying this since the first instructors class went through. back in what 96. so that tells you how likely that is. |

For my class we stayed in Georgetown, were the hotel conference room was. I did that on my last renewal class. I hear the renewal will be online now I did my last instructor renewal online. You take the written test online and either pass/fail. Certificate in the mail a week later! |
