This is a great opportunity to get in some extra shooting...and some night shooting at that.  We've had two night matches thus far and have had great success.  The night matches are going to be held twice a month now due to popularity and request.  Next night match is going to be December 21st.

Per the last two matches, there have been 3 classes to shoot in:

Carbine (Weapon Light Required)
Pistol with Weapon Light
Pistol with handheld light

The entry fee is 20.00 and the match is usually finished up by 9PM.

Stages are relatively simple, but having to shoot in the dark makes even the simplest target array much harder to shoot.

AR15Targets.com is sponsoring these matches and has done a lot for BOTW and Texas Multigun so be sure to come out and shoot!

Is it allowed to use night-vision in place of a weapon light?
12/9/2010 5:07:41 PM EDT
[#6]
As of right now, the current ruling states that carbines and pistols shooting in the weapon light class must be outfitted with a weapon light, not that there is a rule that says you have to turn it on........that is something we'd have to check with the MD

My hunch would be "yes" but as said, confirm the the guys running the show.  Their contact info can be found here.

The matches are fairly laid back.  Several have run a laser on their carbine.  There was at least one select fire out there.  Heard someone already ran night vision, but I didn't see it first hand...  wait, now that I think about it that is the whole reason for running night vision...  no wonder I never saw him....

Anyway, see what they have to say.

I thought I heard a select fire out there last match....do you know who was running it?

I believe someone ran NV at the first match in November, but not that past match.  I recall seeing it and the MD mentioned it.

It was a great match.  There were over 50 shooters and the course was pretty cool.  I shot fairly well considering this was my first in the dark and I'm shooting irons.  We had a couple guys with cans and 1 guy with full auto.  On the last stage we had him shoot last.  He sprayed a full mag into each 4 target array.  Needless to say the fireball looked incredible.  I'm glad I wasn't RO'ing when it was his turn...mostly so I could watch!

I had a great time.  I brought my m16 with a 10.5' upper, but was told that I was only allowed to shoot it on semi.  You can imagine my surprise when the other guy cut loose with his machine gun on the last stage!

edit...also I had to take off my suppressors because the equipment couldn't pick up the noise of the shots.

On one of the can runs, the shot timer didn't pickup the shots and I had the timer very close to the shooter.  He just removed it and ran the stage again.  Plus it was big enough that it blocked out most of the light from his flashlight.  Fortunately the moon was very bright last night!

I didn't see anyone with night vision....did you guys see anyone????

I had night vision, but didn't run it.  I asked about it at sign-up, but was discouraged from using it.  It no doubt would have slowed me down, but I like to practice with it as much as possible for pig hunting.

Last Stage

It was alot brighter than it seems from the video due to the full moon.  It is just a cheap camera.

Hey guys, Jeremy here with AR15Targets / Texas Multi Gun here.
I wanted to chime in about the last night shoot.
It was a ton of fun, and we had a ton of shooters!

This was only our third night match, and we are still working on getting all the exact details worked out on exactly how to keep everyone on an even keel as far as scoring when it comes to some of the unique toys. We are still learning new things every match, and coming up with new ways to accommodate as many people as possible while retaining the clubs impeccable safety record.

WIDeerHunter: Sorry about discouraging you from using your equipment, we haven't had enough people ask those questions to have come up with a plan to accommodate them in advance, so the practical answer at the time was basically lets not address them right now. I know the question will come up again from other people and we need a better answer, we need a way to accommodate them safely. When I heard the other shooter popping off full auto I was actually hanging out in your squad and was thinking "I'm looking at the SBR M-16, wonder who that is..." Then I thought "I hope that's their last shooter, or there are gonna be some pretty pissed off pasters!!!"
I do feel we need to come up with a plan for people with your set of equipment, it might even encourage more like minded people to come out with that set of equipment. So next time you come out to one of our night matches, bring your night vision, your M-16 and some extra rounds and I'll cover your entry fee. Lets see if we can work out a new division for full auto and see if using strictly night vision presents any new problems for the ROs.

Thank you to everyone that attended, and I'm really happy everyone is enjoying it, we appreciate all the feedback we have been receiving to help make these matches more enjoyable and rewarding for everyone.

Jeremy,

Thanks for these matches.  Maybe add an "open" class for the guys that have toys like select fire, night vision, kinetic rail guns, bazookas....  As you said, I think a big part of the select fire stuff is running them at the right time for the sake of the guys taping.  The guy running the rifle in the video above was actually being really good with it throughout the match and the only reason he went to a full mag dump was because we were on our last stage and a bunch of use were egging him on to go do it.

I'm in the "have fun" camp for these matches as I think there are already plently of hard-core events around here.  I've learned more about my gear then anything.  I was the guy on my first stage that had a new weapon mounted light go out after the first shot;  rut row!  Now what....

One other comment;  Maybe get the results posted up on the TMG forum for guys that don't care to sign up on the mail list?

Any chance of a night steel match?  Not sure if it can be done at a safe range for the rifles but I was thinking it would be fun to try to run a shotgun...

Thanks!

Hey Jeremy, Thanks again for all the hard work putting these events on.  I'm already looking forward to the next time I can make it out! I'll bring out the m16 and Uzi next time. Anyone that wants to blast a few mags through them is free to do so.
I can't bring enough ammo for everyone, but I'm not picky as to what anyone wants to shoot through them. It's a lot of fun and is a chance to educate people about NFA ownership.  Thanks again for everything.
