Let me just say what a wonderful place Texas is, I’ve been living in the DFW area for years now but I never took the time to explore the rest of Texas. The wife and I just took a road trip, Plano to Austin, to San Antonio to Corpus Christi and a long stay on Padre Island with my wife’s dear friend.
What a wonderful place Texas is, friendly, kind people, sublime beauty, and beaches on Padre that made me ache for my childhood home in Australia (I was born in England to Irish parents who emigrated us to Australia when I was young), I’ve lived all over the world, many years in Ireland, the UK and elsewhere till I married my beautiful Cajun cutie and finally accepted that I was home wherever she was, but Texas is something special. The Alamo was intense, I never knew so many Brits and Irishman fell for Texas freedom there. I've seen some crappy places around the world, so forgive me if I sound arrogant in my belief that I see Texas sometimes a bit clearer than the natives do…It is very special. Anyway, I see a lot more time on Padre Island in our future (even though the water’s more green than blue, plus the waves are smaller than in NSW and Vic. I still love it so!), I also, got to visit the USS Lexington when in Corpus, what a great ship (my wife’s Father was US Navy in WWII and Korea, God rest his good, kind soul) It made me appreciate even more the sacrifice of the US military through the years– along with it’s allies. But all in all, what a combination – The best of Texas and a beach too! For all you Yankees that may stumble across this post, I’ve seen your Boston, New York and Chicago, nice enough, but you really need to get down to Texas and see the very best of what makes the States such a great place. I have still to see the West Coast, we have a trip to the North West and Canada coming up soon, but I know this already, Texas, everything else will always be compared to it! Sorry if this seems so sentimental, but I just realized what a lucky life I’ve had. |

(it has nothing to do with where you were born) edit: I would advise against putting beans in chili though. If you can't manage that, then at least don't tell anyone |

don't bother going to Kali; just go to Houston; the only diffrence between LA & Houston is +1800 miles & the gun laws.
naw,,,,I lived in Kali for 18 years; go to Yosemite, big Sur, Ft. Bragg, San Diego & you'll see all the best spots. the rest of Kali is bullshit,,,, |

Texas is:
a state of mind another country and not to be messed with... I too am a transplant, came here 32 years ago as a young pup, a dreaded Yankee by birth.and happenstance born to a Welshman and his Scottish queen... Upon my arrival in Texas, stepping off a plane in a small south Texas airport, my first thought was OH MY GOD what the HELL am I doing here,,but, upon touching the tarmac, feeling the hot breeze of the plain on my face, smelling cows, horses and grasses, seeing the expanse of ground before me..for the first time in my life I knew I was home. Having traveled the globe as a journeyman mastering his craft I too saw bits and pieces of most of it from the orient to the near east from GB to Africa... Career and responsibilities has had me kicking around Boston, New York, St Louis, Chicago, Las Vegas LA and San Diego, Miami and Charlotte, Wildwood and the Poconos but TEXAS was home and waiting my return,,I owned land from the day I could afford a down payment, guaranteeing my return and my stake in Texas, Today I am retired and home, in my head, in my heart and in my soul.....I truly found home in my heart, my TEXAS oh yeah,,and Texas is.. bigger than France |
