I have the option of choosing a Nikon 400 yard LRF or Nikon/Callaway 800 yard LRF from my company's reward catalog.

1) Would I actually use an LRF hunting? (Deer/Mule Deer/Elk)
2) Is the "golf" model the same as the hunting model in terms of technology?
3) Do I need 800 yard capability realistically?

Opinions welcome...

1.  Do you hunt with a binos, spotting scope and want to pack something else?  Idealy you spot with the binos then range, dope the wind and fire.
2.  Don't know but I bet stuff marked golf won't work in the bitter cold and rain.
3.  400-800...  Do you shoot at 800yds and can you hit a basket ball at that distance?  I would practice a lot before trying to shoot an elk past 300 yds and 300 is a long way under field conditions.

For the money I would rather range with moa hashes, mildots or a duplex reticle than a laser
the laser is fun and nice and all but it's just not my bag but then I hunt inside 200 yds. I have found to me anything past that is just target shooting.
