Quoted: I've always wanted to bird hunt, just never took the time to do it. Watching the hunting shows, pheasant hunting looks like it keeps you pretty busy. Do you use dogs or is that the only way to hunt them? Bird hunting is TONS of fun. Dove, Goose, whatever. Basically you sit around and joke with your buds. Occasionally birds fly by and you rib whoever missed the most! Pheasant is a bit different 'cause you're generally up and walking. doesn't stop the ribbing if you miss though. ![]() If you get a chance, jump on it. |

good luck!
i went pheasant hunting in the west part of kansas the weekend before thanksgiving. it was my first time bird hunting (other than turkey, heh). I had a blast. the others are right, lots of walking. we used dogs and i'm not sure if they were helpful or hurtful, but it was fun. i look forward to going again. |
| Wow, brings back memories of eastern Colorado hunts. Fun times! I caught a pheasant about 10 years ago in noth west austin. We trapped it in a fishing net. Must have been a pet or something. Anyways I marinaded it with a red wine and smoked that sucker. Pet or no pet it tasted good. My boss gave me shit for a while over catching a pheasant at workin austin at that! |

Years back I got invited up around Whitedeer/ Pampa for a pheasant hunt. No pheasants, but the ducks & quail more then made up for it. Was later asked why I did not bring a rifle as this ranch had everything but pheasants at the time. Very jealous of those on this lease as it had Whitetail, mule deer, pronghorn, yotes, hogs, dog towns and unbelievable ducks & quail.
Dress warm as we got a decent amount of snow, and the duck ponds had ice. |

Headed up to Dumas and Dalhart with my GSP. Good luck. Might as well take it farther north to Kansas. We used to run up to Liberal every year. You pay for the $75 license for out of state. they give you a county map with open land listings and you go for it. |

We have several thousand acres of farmland in Dumas and our ranch manager says that they are really thick this year, quail too. Can't wait to go. |
