| I know one of you is in insurance but I forgot who it is. I'm getting screwed on health insurance and need some. So any pointers before I waste my time? |

Join the crowd. Wasn't so bad before, but now that Obama has been preaching for months that health care costs are "sky rocketing", every company has an excuse to jack up premiums to crazy levels. That way more people will complain and buy into his load of BS and once he gets his Obama care inacted companies will get to dump their insurance. Our enrollment period just started for 2010 and my premiums jumped 29%, deductibles jumped up, and copays went up as well. This a week after telling us no one in the company would be getting any pay raises this coming year. Guess it's another year of being told just be glad you have a job! |

What do you mean by screwed in health insurance? <––works in health insurance I've got BCBS. A $5,000.00 deductible. It is supposed to be a family. Turns out its $5k per person. 6 of us. That's $30k before my insurance would kick in if we all got in a grisly car accident. So in short, I have insurance, but I never reach the $5k deductible every year, so I'm self insured. Plus I'm paying thousands per year for this horse shit coverage. |

While there are plans like that in the market, it is vary rare that they are even sold, especially with a plan with that high of a deductible. Personally out of all the accounts I help manage, none of the plans are like that. You would probably be better off getting your own family coverage with a smaller deduct and it would probably be cheaper too. Normally, the individual and family would be covered under on large deductible |
| No HR dept. I'm self employed. My agent set this up. I just pay it. Its not until you use insurance you find out exactly what you have. I know, I should read the policy, etc., and I can't complain cause I didn't, but I should be able to trust my agent to understand what I want. |

If you are in Houston, I can give you a name and number to a broker friend of mine. He can explain how your benefits works and could shop for a plan for you through different carriers.
5K deduct non embedded plan for a family sucks. Thats pretty much like a catastrophe plan. |
| im self employed too and we have unicare as well. i have almost gotten used to the premiums going up 20% each time they send me a letter. but we had to use the insurance a lot last year and a but this year too. we used ehealthinsurance.com to get our plan 2 or 3 years ago and have not had any luck getting a better rate through other companies. |

I'm also self-employed and using BCBS, with a 10K deductible - and that high deductible is intentional. My insurance is for expenses I can't afford to pay for out of pocket, not to cover every sniffle. Not sure if your trying to be a dick, but $5k deductible per person in a family of 6 isn't to cover every sniffle either. But when one kid has to have knee surgery from an injury at friends house, and the wife mammograms and a biopsy, as well as all the other doctor visits for the other 3 kids, it adds up real quick. I've still got just under two months left before it resets, and I've yet to reach the deductible for any of us. That means I'm out over $20k in cash as well as the monthly premiums. I'm getting fucked and fucked hard. So if any of you guys are in insurance.......I'm a real fucking easy sale right now! ETA: I talked to one of you HTF guys on the phone about auto insurance a few months ago and you were in N. TX. I don't remember who it was but figured if anyone is interested, I'm eager. |

Ucare has steadily gone up and gone up and gone up... I think we keep our deductibles around 5k..... which is too high to get any benefits unless someone has a serious problem. i would have it as low as possible but with how premiums are, i can't afford any less than that. i had a bad mx accident a few years back... cost around 10k... it was in OK and I was out of it. When they came, they morphined me up and I was out. They took me to a hospital which Unicare said was one of my choice, then claimed was not a std. provider and only paid 50% of normal benefits. So my coverage only paid $2,500 then I had to pay for an ambulance ride on my own because it was deemed, patient requested, when it was actually doctor demanded to save my friggin life... i wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that ride. I think the ride was $500, So, all in all, I paid out $8,000. If i would've paid cash, they probably would have accepted the $8k or maybe less, so who got the screwing. They didn't do squat for me. Luckily, I haven't needed it since and my kids haven't needed it. |

Imagine if I had started a thread inquiring about just this, and looking to help a fellow HTF member and get help myself? Maybe someone who provides no valuable input, and isn't the a person I'm looking for in the field I'm asking about can give me stupid reply's that are already answered before they post. Maybe you ought to read the thread. Instead of impressing everyone with your badass $10k deductible because your finance savvy. Since your of absolutely no help how about moving the fuck on to a place where someone gives a shit about you? |

I would fucking fire any insurance agent that even suggested anything like that to me.
