Just had a crazy idea last night and am thinking about moving. No real timeframe. Don't really have any idea where to, so I'm asking here.
Currently living in the DFW area and been here for most my life. I don't really have much knowledge of the outlying areas and towns. In-laws live in Plano, so an hour to 2 hour drive would be nice. Looking for a rural-ish area with a decent sized town nearby, nice houses, good range nearby or maybe even shoot in my backyard, good schools (little one on the way). I'm open to suggestions. |

You're way short on info if you are looking for serious feedback. Are you talking about moving away from DFW or just out in the country near the metroplex? What do you do? Does the spousal unit work? What is your financial status? As a general statement, you are talking about moving AWAY from an area the people are flocking to because our economy and un-employment rates are doing a lot better than most of the country and better than a lot of the rest of Texas.
Sounds like somebody has a corn cob up their ass or a problem they are trying to run from. |

Ya could look in Ennis area. Half way between Waco/Dallas with gun ranges in both direction. You mention nothing about employment, so I gather that's taken care of. Not sure about Ennis area schools. I was just up there and it looked pretty. I live in Austin area, and we're more than a cpl of hours away from Plano. |

I would suggest moving outside the DFW air quality non-attainment areas. Maybe give yourself a 2 county cushion to avoid future creep. This way you should be able to avoid ethanol blended gasoline and the yearly automobile emissions testing.
Make sure that the area you want to move to doesn't have water shortages/rationing. Figure out what size community will offer your family the services they will require, then do some on-line investigating. Epodunk.com can give you some good info. Spend some weekends checking out those communities that appeal to you. Here's a map of the ozone non-attainment areas: DFW ozone non-attainment area |

Mckinney is a very nice 'small town' feel with some good restaurants and good proximity to whatever. If you want more rural, head north to Sherman, a growing town. Celina is a small town with plenty of flair and proximity. Lots of opportunities....
Oh, and I build houses in the area, have for a long time. Let me know if you have any area questions and when you need help with moving, house plans or construction. |
