Long story short I submitted my application online about a month ago, but forgot to sign in one place, Thus they sent it back saying to sign it, okay done, I sent it back with sign. confirmation and someone signed for it, this was about 3 weeks ago but when I check my online status it still shows "missing info letter sent" or somesuch. I have emailed DPS to no avail.

It will show that status until it is issued. When that will happen is anyone's guess. Unfortunately, you went back to the end of the line because of the missing signature.
Not sure how long the backlog is these days, but I've read that it is into "months".

Thank you, this is what I was worried about.

I don't expect it until at least october anyway

Something similar happened to me several years ago when I first did the application, and at some point in the process it changed from a message like you're getting to "pending".  That was after they got it back, finally started looking at it, and started the process of the background check.

I do agree though that you most likely went back to the end of the line.  The problem right now is that they are completely overwhelmed and behind so I wouldn't expect it anytime soon.

Expect it to take 4 months or more. You will almost certainly not see it in the next 60 days.

They received my completed application on May 7 and I have still not received my license FYI

Sent mine in on May 28.  All the web site says is "in progress".  I called my rep and his office has made an inquerry for me.  I knew it was going to take a while, but 90 days without any word is ridiculous.  If they would say something on the web site like "Package and fingerprint card are okay, awaiting background check".  My big concern is that after 4 months they will come back and say that I didn't dot an i or that my fingerprints were smeared.  BTW, my reps office said they have received many inquerries about this backlog.  Maybe something good will come of this.

what rep are you speaking of?

Probably state rep?

I sent mine off the first time in March, they sent it back to me in June wanting "proof of honorable discharge" aka my DD214. OK, you guys are doing a background check right? 15 seconds into that it will show 11 years of active duty for the love of God.

I sent it back with a copy of my DD214 and now still waiting for god knows how long this time around.

In all that time, all it's ever said on the website was "processing".

Sent in the SO's back in March. She just got her license last week.

I am on day 137 and still waiting, have called 4 times checking status and get "still processing application".  This is just wrong for them to take this long but what can we do? They need to hire more help and process these like they are supposed to or start working a bunch of overtime. Just rediculous in my opinion.

State Rep John Otto from Dayton.  His office made a call for me and the DPS is supposed to look at my package and see what the deal is.  I hope the squeaky wheel gets the oil.  We all should be calling our reps and senators on this issue.  I will contact my state senator tomorrow.  I urge all of you to do the same.

The long wait times may also be compounded by the office of the County Sherrif where you live. They have to respond to the information on the background check. In populous counties like Harris or Dallas, they have few resources devoted to processing the applications.

24/7 or Guess Right.

An instructor said this week in a class that the wait time now is pushing six months, with 68,000 applicants on the books through the end of June. Yeah, I would guess they're a little behind.

Unless things have changed there are only five or six people who process all of these things.

If wait times get any longer for Texas driver's licenses, they'll be right up there with CHLs.  I was told not to expect my driver's license any sooner than 8 weeks.  When I asked the girl what I'm supposed to do without a gov photo ID for 8 wks (they take your out-of-state license), she replied, "Oh, you mean for clubbing and buying alcohol?"

I wanted to tell her the truth: "No, I mean to transfer the AR-15 I've been waiting 6 mos for and is supposed to arrive this month."  I was afraid the idiot might take it as a threat, though.  I guess I should've gotten a passport beforehand.

Sorry for the off-topic rant.

You should be good.

Tip to CHL apps:  Call the DPS in Austin, BE EXTREMELY POLITE, and ask where things are.  When I renewed and the wife app'd for her first CHL I called just to see where we were.  Soon after they looked us up we received them.

Should have told her, no for things like you know cashing paychecks and such

Good luck. I just sent in my application (let the wait begin...).

Question: Do I have to request a PIN to check online status, or do they send me one once they receive my application?

Can you imagine what would happen to a private company operating in a free market acting this way?

This is a good example of why you want government involved in very little of your life.

Rep Otto's office made a call to the DPS on my behalf.  The lady at the office indicated that she had a # to the CHL office that is not published on the web site.  Anyway, she said they told her that my background check was complete.  She then said that print licenses for completed packages in batches and that mine had barely made it into the next batch.  I'm still looking at up to three weeks according to her, but at least I now know my package was good to go.
