Just saw the post about the Houston Gunshow and thought I'd throw in one about the gunshow in Austin.  Pretty similar deal, lots of AR's, all the great manufacterers...all seemed pretty expensive, most about $1300-$1500.  Only one I saw below $1000 was an Oly Arms for $900 somethin.  Ammo, like the other post said was crazy expensive, I was hoping to pick up some .223 and 9mm but the prices were rediculous.  I was just looking for inexpensive ammo for plinking and the local Walmart has way better deals.  Anyway, lots of good looking rifles, high prices, not too many people there though..

Nope..............not many that I saw, were picking up ammo.

Some of the prices were triple than what would be normally paid for at a box store.

I just laughed.........if it wasn't so sad, it would be comical.

Yea the austin gun shows are getting crazy as far as ammo prices.  I dont see many people willing to spend 3x's the regular amount for ammo anymore.  Hopefully soon all the scalpers will realize this and begin dropping prices.  Ive noticed AR's are starting to take drops in prices a little as well.

I like the name  "ammo scalpers", better than gougers as some people seem offended by that term.  I was there Saturday when the doors opened and a line formed right away around one of the ammo dealers so it seems some people are still willing to pay the high prices.  What is sad is that a large amount of the ammo being sold at the gun shows is ammo that the dealers purchased from Wal-Mart and Academy, but they sell it at about 2x the original price.  The high prices seemed to have extended to everything gun related, even ammo cans that were selling for $7 each a few months ago are now $15!  I do hope prices start coming back down soon, I think while some may be trying to get rich quick, they are only hurting the industry.

Yeah too many tables where all they had was marked up academy ammo where the price was 2-3x the academy price.  Just plain stupid and there must have been at least 3 vendors with the same crap.

AR prices have come down a bit as the manufacturers are catching up and there is more supply now.  That last two months there are plenty of ARs to be found at the gun shows and online.  For some reason it doesn't seem like the ammo manufacturers are catching up (or trying?) and as long as the supply stays low and/or people keep hoarding it, the prices will stay high.

well people are definately hoarding it, and i really didnt see many people purchasing it either, as everyone else commented the prices were rediculous

I saw those 200 round boxes of 9mm you could buy for about $50 at Academy going for $120 at the Austin gunshow.

Yeah, Same here with the ammo. Saw a few booths trying to sell the UMC value packs for 109 plus.  Better selection of rifles, and a tad cheaper than last show.

I did buy a new pistol, so something good came of the show.  'Don't touch' guy wasn't there LOL(I know some of you know who I'm talking about).

As long as people don't shop around and buy that ammo, there's no reason for them to lower prices.

Went today looking for a shotgun and to see what else I could find.  What a disappointment.  Monarch 7.62x39 for 10 bucks a box!  Similarly stupid deals throughout. Saw an AMD-65 for 800 dollars!  Wasrs for 750.  Used 20-rd AR mags for 20 bucks.  The only bright spot was that not many people were there.  I didn't see a lot of deals being made.  Maybe the dealers will start to get the hint. A lot of just plain junk too––jewelry, toys, hats and other knickknacks and crap.

I did pick up a RRA LPK for $74 instead of the usual $120 I'm seeing everywhere. There is still some opportunities to be had at the show.

The ammo prices were obscene.  There was more AR stuff there this weekend than I have seen in a very long time.  Prices on ARs have come down a bit.  I remember last show Stag lowers were going for $200+.  I saw several tables that had them for $155.

I get the whole supply and demand thing, and folks will always try to make a buck...

For this crazy mess, I have just been watching and keeping track of which vendors are doing what.  There has been some crazy stuff.  But there are also some good folk out there doing their best to hold the line.  Those are the ones I am doing bussiness with and those will be the ones I will keep doing bussiness with when the market settles out.
