So I was doing a quick trip down memory lane and I was thinking.. about 20 years ago when I was a wee tot, I could run across my lawn and you could see hundreds of grasshoppers and lady bugs fly up in your face. These days, I haven't seen ONE. Where'd they all go? Global warming? Aliens?
DUmbass question? I know that already. |

So it's not just you ... |

Folks blame the lack of fire flies on city lights causing them to get confused and not mate (How many bugs does it take to screw a light bulb?) or it could be that they have all been trapped in mayonnaise jars and suffocated.
I saw some in East Dallas a couple of weeks ago and was showing them to my daughter. There's a creek two streets over and I've got a pretty big flower bed in my front yard with a lot of butterfly and hummingbird friendly plants which makes a great haven for bugs. This one was probably searching for a mate or maybe after the water from my republican era lawn irrigation system. Most of the commercial grade stuff is set up to target specific insects and a lot of insects have adapted and become resistant to various pesticides (just like antibiotics). So now standard treatment is to rotate between several targeted pesticides. For home use, you can still go down to Home Depot, get a can of Raid and kill just about every bug you can spray with it. |

I blame swine flu. Could also be global warming or the increased levels of CO2 in the air. But hey, WTF do I know? I am a dumb conservative with a job. Maybe Al Gore can tell us? Dont panic! Its not too late. You can quit your job, go on welfare & move to Hippy Hollow in Austin. Father half a dozen kids with at least 3 different women, open a "smoke shop" & in a few months youll be a model citizen. This only works if you dont financially support any of the kids. Thats the states job, not yours. |

Well I'm in a more suburban area, so there's not a lot of open land. I used to be able to run across the lawn and have hundreds go scattering. When we'd mow the lawn, there'd be a mess of bugs and guts everywhere. Now a days, it's really quiet. Well there's your problem. |
