I went to this place a couple of weeks ago. It was great. It was $12 per person $10 I think if you are military or LEO. That was for the day. They have a lot of different ranges you can shoot on. It's out doors. I even heard some 3 round burst. It was great until this assclown showed up and decided to not pay attention to where he was pointing his rifle when he was posing for some pictures and pointed it in our direction. Other than that it was a great day. Oh and it's outdoors.

not  a bad range for the area. Beats having to drive down to Austin. The folks runing therang was driving up and down the range checking on folks. Not bad at all. The furest you can shoot from what I saw was about 100 meters so no long range stuff. We go there early and had all 10 booths to ourselves.

That's Stan's.
It's been there longer, though it is not set up as nice.

Here's its sign:

I don't live anywhere near there, but in 2007 I was on a road trip to New Mexico, saw the sign and snapped a pic. Now this thread gives the pic some purpose; I hope it helps one of you local guys find the place.

I thought when I was there last that they said "no rapid fire", though this is clearly not enforced at the level that other ranges (like Eagle Peak) enforce.

I have used both. Have to say I prefer Stan's Probably cause I started there 8 yrs ago. Back when it was Tony's. So  guess it is Nostalgia.

Oh and that you don't have to shoot from the  bench like at Astro. If you can go early on  weekday to stans and you are all alone you can draw holster move  and all the other fun stuff. You can't do it at Astro due to havint to shoot from bench.

I dont care too much for Astros.  A friend and I both with matching XD45s went there a few months ago.  (I had been there a dozen times, so am no stranger).  We were at the closest bench, and before we got off the first mag, we were stopped by one of the golf cart guys.  He was sayin we were double tapping.  We finished our mags and before we could start a second, he came back on his little golf cart, sayin he was just checkin on us.  Then a few more times.  We left early, and wont be back.

Stan is such a great guy.  He laughs with you, comes out and shows you some old man stuff.  Hes always letting me shoot some kind of gun that he may have on him, really liked the 41mag revolver he let me shoot.

There is a pistol bench, and old guys smoke cigarettes there while you reload and everyones shareing info on their guns.

It is true about no one being there, and you can do some mild reflexive stuff on the pistol range.

Stans is way more relaxed, country feel, and just all around welcome place.

Oh!  Forgot to mention, at Astros you have to pay extra to use the spotting scopes, but stan loans em out for free.

+10 for Stans

Well I'm not sure when this was but they didn't say anything to the guys in the pistol range next to us about double tap or practicing drawing and tac shooting. I was glad to see the guys on the carts keeping an eye on things. I will take safety over anything else any day of the week when it comes to shooting. As far as stans it doesn't look like any place I would want to go to. Looks can be deceiving but I don't think I will be going there.
