Comcast has been moving chanels and turning them on and off for the last few months. Once a month I spend 10 minutes on the phone with Comcast refreshing the box. How bad is dish vs this???
What do you have and how do you like it? |
| We use DirecTV here at my house....We have 4 receivers in the house. 2 HD, 1 DVR, and 1 Regular receiver. I think we have to call them MAYBE once every 6 months or so, if that. The only downside to satelite is when it is raining REALLY hard you loose signal. Under normal showers, we have no problem. Only thing I miss with cable is the on demand stuff. |

After the hurricane (and we got power back) all I had to do was get outiside and re-aim the dish(DirecTV).Other people I know that had cable waited weeks. And other than when it rains bad the reception is great .. and a bit cheaper than cable... cable service has been intermitent since the hurricane and still a bit buggy even now. |

+1 for Direct TV and heck with Comcrap. I made the switch a year ago and have been pleased with Direct TV since then. No bills that creep up every month and dealing with morons forever on the phone that ended up nowhere. Lost a bunch of money on comcrap that I never did get back out of them after trying for several months. I'd get rid of tv before I'd think about going back to comcrap.
Goodluck! |

I left cable behind a long time ago. In the early '90s I installed a C-band 3 meter dish. In about 2001 I went with Direct TV and have been happy ever since.
Does someone make a weather cover to keep rain from killing the picture? With my old C-band dish I could have 3 inches of snow and ice on the dish and still get a signal. Granted it was analog, but even when I installed a digital receiver and got both digital and analog signals rain never bothered me. Jim |
| Directv has the best customer service by far. Honestly I think my cable went out 5x more than my directv ever has and the picture is always good. The other thing is that you might have to wait 5 minutes to talk to someone with comcrap good luck talking to anyone in 20-30 min. |

What do you have and how do you like it? I have been a DirecTV subscriber since 1995 and I've always been pleased with the service, especially since I got a TiVO and expanded it with a 160GB hard drive (150 hours). That said, AT&T U-Verse just became available in my area (they just pulled new fiber) and I'm switching to that next month since it will save me a few bucks, upgrade me to HD service and get me 10 megabit Internet which is like 7 times faster than my current DSL... |

Does someone make a weather cover to keep rain from killing the picture? It has more to do with the volume of water in the atmosphere than drops on the LNR.
I had DirecTV for a few years, and now Dish (different location). Precipitation was occasionally a problem. It could be pouring rain at home and the signal was fine; other times, no rain but a thunderhead in line with the signal and the signal was rough. Those times are rare. Dish has worked in a ice storm, and DirecTV in snow. Lee |

Comcast has been moving chanels and turning them on and off for the last few months. DirectTV has the same problem. Basically, you have to re-program the satellite receiver every 6 months or so to keep up with all the channel re-assignments. They also like to drop networks from your service package just for the hell of it. Speaking of service packages, you generally end up watching around 5 percent of the networks included in any given package - The number of channels they manage to fill up with useless crap is truly amazing... |

And never had any dropped services either. Can add/delete easily from the web site. |

| I've had DirecTV w/TIVO for over 4 years. The only times I have had to call them was for initial activation and then to sign up for the Sunday Ticket. Channel lineup changes have not required any interaction. There are probably only a few times a year where reception is affected by rain and never for more than an hour. I like it a lot and plan on buying the new HDDVR units this year. |

We have dish network here, the receivers re-program themselves while they are shut off. I have never really noticed them dropping channels, I guess because they have not dropped any that I watch. I know they have added channels since we first signed up. We lose signal in heavy rains, but not very often. I don't think I have ever had to call them in the 3yrs we have had them. I do agree there is a lot of crap on them that I never watch. Anyone else noticed the 2 or so 24hr Obama Coin Channels since the election? |

Cable is a rip-off.
Satellite goes out when you need to be watching the news during bad storms! +1 AT&T U-Verse. No contract, a lot for your money (all receivers can replay recorded shows from DVR) AND it doesn't go out while your watching the tornado warnings! |
