I wont be home for very long (about two weeks), and then will be returning to deploy, so I am looking for a place I can get it done in one weekend. Thanks for any help.

Thanks. Can someone tell me about how much I will be looking to pay. I see that Targetmaster says it is 150 plus 140 for the State Fee, while Bullet Trap in Plano says it is only 130. Thanks.

ETA: Also, what do I need to bring with me? (like what is provided in the class)

I recommend Larry Bartek.  Check his website for details.  Enjoyable class:

I did mine at Texas Handgun Academy (10201 Plano Road, Suite 103, Dallas, Texas 75238, (214) 340-3101).  Their standard rate is only $110.

Also, call in advance.  IIRC if you're active military or a veteran, you won't even have to do the shooting portion of the test.

I went here for my renewal.
Range is a bit wanting, but very fast. Did prints and pics as well. Walked you through filling out the forms.

You need to get your application.

so you get it in the mail before you show up.

Thanks for all the replys, I will look into them.

I did the application online and will tell my mother to be expecting it in the mail. I found out that the $140 license fee is waved because I am active duty, which is nice.

I went through Bullet Trap on Avenue K (which is what Plano Rd. is renamed as it extends north).

Bullet Trap

$130.00 for the class ($90.00 for renewal) includes passport photos, fingerprints, notary.....everything. Nice folks. Good class.

I also took mine at Bullet Trap in Plano.

As a bonus you also get two range passes and a free gun rental. That's gotta be worth $30+ just for that.

Thanks yall for all the replys. I was looking at Bullet Trap because it is close and I have been there before. I just didn't like how you had to come back monday to finish up the shooting portion.

Now I just need to get my exact leave dates and find a class that falls on a date that I am home (I'll keep my fingers crossed).

I took my renewal there the last two times before this last one, and I had to come back for prints the following monday, so be aware of that if you are short on time too.

Bullet Trap has a class on December 20th and I will be able to take that one (I am pretty sure) and do the prints on Monday. That is if I can't find any place in the area that will be holding a class while I am home that gets EVERYTHING done in one day.

You don't actually have to go back to Bullet Trap Monday for fingerprints. I wasn't able to, so I had them done at a police station. Just call ahead to be sure the station does them and if so, when.
