Im fixing to have to get a set of tires for my truck. Im wanting to get BFG all terrains in a 285 70r17 but dont really want to spend the 220 a tire at discount tire. Does anyone know how to go about finding something like a blemish set or some that didnt pass the Q/C for a cosmetic reason? Or do they just shred/recycle the bad tires?

with liability for tire company (think about the nasty legal whacks that Firestone has taken)  I'd stick with first rate or not let it out the door in the USA (now outside the border is a whole 'nuther boat!)

Wonder is you could get a set cheap in Mexico??

not sure...it'd kill anything I could save to get down there. I was mainly thinking something like one of the raised white letters getting messed up or something.

I recently had to shop around for tires for my Dodge Ram 1500 w/ 20" bitches.  Believe it or not, Sam's Club was A few bucks cheaper on the tires but they had none of the "other charges" like disposal fee and such.

Make shure that the new tires you buy are not old stock. Check this link for some good info.  http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897

I never hear of that before. The price of oil is driveing the tire prices up though. Too bad your not around Houston, I got a bro that could hook you up on some new ones.

Yeah, there was a thread in GD about the prices of tires about to go up, due to oil costs. I need a couple of sets for my pickup and daughter's car and I'm really looking for a deal.

The thing about saving a few dollars vs. Discount Tire (who say that if you bring them an ad or a price list they will meet or beat it) is that Discount Tire has amazing service.

They fix flats, give adjustments for tires if you purchased them from Discount.

I swear by them.

Not sure where in TX you are... I get my tires from these guys all the time

http://www.tntwtw.com/

My buddy works there... and well basically you can get tires at wholesale prices. They sell to Discount tire, you can't order stuff over the phone really... but if you show up in person they will gladly sell to you. Just go in through the front door, tell them what you're interested in and see what they have.

I buy tires for my Camaro from them every year that normally run 120+ a pop, I get them at 59.99 ;).

Damn, Thanks.

I live in Fort Worth but work in Grapevine. They are just down 360 from me. Anyone in particular I need to talk to there?

The blems that are sold here are comestic only, not anything structural...Those that have an issue with strength sre scrapped at full value as a loss. They will sell ones with heavy spots but that does not have any adverse effect on the tire integrity just in balance weights required which with a good tire guy, can be rotated on the rim to minumize the weights required...

I bought a set of Pro Comp MTs for my jeep years ago. They look and act just like BFGs but were a lot less. They sell blems too. It's 4Wheel performance Center.
They have pro Comp AT tires too that are good.

I too would suggest discount... I tried to save some bucks by getting my tires from some parts locator guy that had them in stock... bad decision.. I think they have flat spots and one looses its air every month or so... since I have tried to replace the bad ones with some from discount tire and have had zero probs... and their warranty is the best and great customer service!! YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!

Just had to replace my OE tires on my 07 Explorer at only 24,000 miles. Tire was a complete POS and we are talking normal freeway driving. Plenty of the reviews at Discount Tire had the same thing wrong with them. Hopefully my new Michellins will be better.........

Heres what I do.

Go online to the THETIRERACK. They sell all kinds of tires and deliver them to your door- just like a plasma TV or whatever, they are WAAAY the hell cheaper than brick and mortar stores! Get a "shopping cart" quote for the tires you want. Take it to Discount Tire and ask them to match it.

They will say- that price doesn't include shipping and you say and it doesn't include your sales tax either- match the price or not. They will. Then you will have much cheaper tires that you can get serviced nearly anywhere as Discount Tire is a huge chain......

This technique saved me over $90 on my last set of tires. I got exactly what I wanted at a very good price.

I just bought BFG All Terrain 285 65R18s on sale at SEARS for around $150 a piece.  Total install price was $795 with all the flat and forever rotate/balance stuff.  Great deal and great service and great tires.

Cruise around Irving until you find a rent a tire store and ask them if they have any used BFG's.

I forgot to update this. I took Tyrvidar's advice and went to TNT Wholesalers last week. I bought a set of four Cooper 225 60x16's for $64.00 each. I then went to Three Bears and had them balanced and mounted for a total of $36.00. The total for everything was just under $300.00. I might have done better had I called ahead and ordered, but instead bought what they had in stock when I arrived. No complaints here at all.

I was recently in the market for new tires. I had 16" and wanted 17" and just wanted GMC OEM wheels. I found a place in Hurst called North Texas Takeoffs. They had a set of NEW OEM wheels with NEW Goodyear Wrangler AT/S P265/70/17 for $700. Didn't have to pay to mount the tire or balance just $20 to put them on. I was happy with the deal.

I actuall found a brand new set of BFG Mud Terrains on craigslist for 750$. Couldnt pass them up, discount sales them for 279 a tire. I found them right before I went to TNT. They were the cheapest of anyone I called.

Wish I'd have known you needed a set of GM wheels. Ive got a brand new set in the shop. Somehow my dad wound up with them, but now they are just in the way.

This is what I wound up with
