The surface center of Dolly is reforming a bit further to the north of the storm, near the heaviest thunderstorm activity. This will require a northward adjustment to the track forecast, increasing the danger to Texas. The models are pretty united in forecasting a track towards the Texas/Mexico border over the next two days, with a decrease in forward speed. Some significant uncertainty creeps into the forecast for Wednesday, when steering currents weaken and the models have differing solutions on the orientation and strength of the ridge of high pressure steering Dolly. The latest GFDL and HWRF models runs from 2 am EDT this morning have shifted significantly north, bringing Dolly ashore near Corpus Christi, Texas. The GFDL shows a very large borderline Category 1/2 hurricane, with tropical storm force winds extending from Galveston to Brownsville at landfall. Dolly will probably grow quite large and affect a 200-mile stretch of coast with tropical storm-force winds. Like her namesake, actress Dolly Parton, Dolly the tropical cyclone appears destined to become a media star. I posted this in TXCO4's thread about going down to Corpus. If you are going to Galveston this weekend, Dolly will be a faint memory. |
| Did anyone else see the friggin moronic signs on the Beltway? Intended for the Sheeple no doubt. "Fill your tanks. Hurricane forming in the Gulf." Hah, yeah, there's a reason to plop $50 on petrol. I stocked up on Bud Select and Baby Back Ribs for the ensuing calamity as well! |
Texas.gov isn't taking any chances on getting caught with their pants down on this storm. You can't blame them really. If they don't do everything possible...they get called on the carpet for it. If they do everything they can to protect public safety, somebody will call it "friggin moronic". Damned if they do/don't. There WILL be power outages, etc. and gas pumps don't work very well with no electricity. I hope you have a generator to keep all that beer cold. |
I think it's absurd to scare people like the talking heads do on the forecasts. Remember the bus full of refugees from a nursing home that caught fire in the Rita evacuation? I think it rained for about 10 seconds when Rita came through at my place. Ms. Coz called me from the freeway "Should we fill up the tanks like the sign says?" I said "if you need gas, yeah" I predict a significant non-event |
I could totally understand your comments if you were talking about anywhere from Corpus on down south. To put up big signs like that in an area not even expected to get TS level winds is a good way to cause unneeded panic. I had people lining up behind me to buy gas at a cheap Shell yesterday. I was on empty, certainly not worried about being stranded. I follow the weather and plan accordingly. We have supplies in a bug out box etc. I would love to get a generator but its not in the budget. If a storm of any size is coming right for Houston, those signs and other alerts make sense. P eople in general are not all that smart, you tell them something bad may happen and they start freaking out. The lady at Lowes was joking about how people were buying plywood etc. I have been through 2 severaly catastrophic storms (Hugo,Marilyn-USVI) and know when to fear mother nature. It takes a decent electrical storm to cause outages here, 30mph+ winds etc. I doubt we will see that, hopefully just some rain. |
Yeah I'm down here south of Houston... been sitting at home looking for a job the past few weeks, haven't been on the highways (due to needing to find something super close to home) and I just found out like five minutes ago ![]() I'm not a native of Houston, so I'd like to know if I need to GTFO before it's here... I need to watch the news more Just went to the store last night tho, got some chicken. Oh, and I need to order one of these ASAP! Having just moved, most of my stuff is still in rubbermade boxes. |

Lol, she's drinking it without boiling it or treating it. That's genius. We always fill up the bathtubs but that's just for flushing toilets or sponge baths etc. Drinking water should always come from sealed containers if possible. If not use purification tablets when the source is in doubt. Like WinMag said, relax. When people are all going North or West, then start worrying. I would put more thought into BBQing that chicken than this storm. |
I filled up mine last night just because I know others are going to and it will drive up the price of gas in a couple of days, so might aswell get it now then. Also picked up some Shiner Bock. |
$3.79 at Shell - Genoa Red Bluff / Beltway where all the cops were Friday. What a deal! I should have filled up my bathtub with 87 octane too, lol. |
Dude, it's tap water in a sealed bag. It will be fine to drink for weeks. |
Keep your Immodium next to that Bob bag. Certain brands of bottled water, such as Ozarka, go bad and smell like ass within a week. I keep a bottle by the bed and use it to take a pill at night. Some brands last 2 weeks but Ozarka is foul in a few days. Go figure. I think its the plastic material they use. |
Or it could be the backwash from a germ ridden mouth, just a guess.
|
You drink that foreign beer. That Danish crap. Might as well drink water. |
Just to be clear, I mean the human mouth in general is full of germs, not just yours. It could be differences in mineral content in the water or mere coincidence. Either way, with the water bob, the tap water has chlorine which helps disinfect it and no backwash unless you are using it wrong |
I hate it when I'm right......not a drop of rain yet |
Give it about another hour and a half. Radar shows rain moving in off the coast. It looks to be raining right now in beautiful downtown Port Arthur, and it is moving to the northwest. Liberty county, hopefully will get a good rain, we need it. |
Well water is delicious, especially mountain spring water. I spent many years in N. Ga, that is the best tasting water I've ever had. I drank from the streams growing up, never got sick. Bottle water is more about taste than bacteria for me at the house, but ours don't come from no well. Open reservoir full of bird shit, fish turds you name it. I just thought it was funny the way they marketed that product. If they had used it more for daily usage not just drinking it would have made more sense. Me, I'd rather have an open bath tub I can dip a bucket in for flushing toilets etc. And a stock of bottle water. But do what you want. |
