Tiger Valley is looking at a 5-day competition next spring with all money going to benefit wounded soldiers. I'm thinking a Wednesday through Sunday event. I want to make as much as I can with whatever venue will attract the most interest. I want to keep costs down and will look for donations for everything from trophies to food and drinks. Let me know what you guys think will draw the most shooters. It doesn't have to be all one type of venue, we can mix it up with several. Larue has offered to help with all they can. Also let me know what possible dates that are available that won't conflict with other events. thanks, T.J.

I would like to play with those larue targets, for sure.
Maybe a Sniper/elimination shoot, miss and your out, or something along those lines.Start at 300 and move back until a winner emerges? Just thinking outloud here.
Also, volunteering to help out comes to mind.March/April is good shooting/camping weather too.
This is a great idea, and with your excellent range facilities, you have to take advantage of the long line on the KD range, so maybe a loose F-class shoot for folks like me who want to try it.
Maybe a steel plate match in the pistol bays too?

Keep us posted T.J., maybe i will land a freakin job soon, i really wanted to come down for the last open shoot, but right now bills come first.

I don't really have the financial means to contribute (or probably even participate in the events), but I will gladly contribute my time if there is a need.  Please contact me if there is any way that I can help.

Maduce

If you want to invite some wounded warriors let me know so I can get the word out at the Ft Hood WTU. Medical hold for wounded troops. You will need to specify combat wounded or you'll get a bunch of non combat. We combat wounded are the minority at the WTU.

Also you may to advertise in Killeen/ Cove/ Ft Hood AO. Soldiers love to support our wounded buddies.

Also Think about multiple classes like 2 2day classes and then a one day tourney / match. Then again 3 one day classes one each on pistol, carbine, shotgun with a 1 day 3 gun match and a Fri  / Sat fun shoot. Plus vendors always vendors.

i've never been to a shoot but i would be happy to donate and participate if we get a date set in advance.
When asked if people point their muzzle up or down at the range when not shooting, bblake00 replies:
"I just point them at people walking to change their targets and dryfire while going bang bang with each pull of the trigger."

thanks guys, I will let everyone know the game plan as soon as it firms up.  The name of the game for this event is to raise as much money as possible in the short time we have.  I am taking suggestion and looking at everything we can do.  I will give those who stated they could help out a call when we no more about the event.

Most of us spend a fortune on weapons, ammo and gear, I know I do.  The time and money that we put to this could not go to a better purpose.  thanks t.j.

MADUCE, feel free to add this to my forum... Texas Gun Talk. Hopefully get some more people interested.

I know I'm interested in it, probably bring some friends.

Is there a way we can donate to sponsor it as well?

If you involve pistols you can probably get the guys at STI to jump in on the game.

What about like an Olympics of guns type of setup, where you have all kinds of different shooting competitions over the 5 days. Like do a long range match one day, and maybe like a cowboy action match in the bays while that is going on. The next day do a three gun, and maybe have skeet or sporting clays out on th KD range. People could participate in one event, multiple events of all events. Say charge a $50 (or whatever) entry fee for 1 event, charge a $150 (or whatever) for 5 events of the shooter's choosing and charge $300 (or whatever) for unlimited events over the whole 5 days. At the end of each event you could give out gold, silver and bronze medals worth points, and then the people with the most points get whatever prizes are donated.

The benefit is if you get it advertised in advance by putting up flyers in gun shops around town and maybe if you're going to do any gun shows between now and then tell people about it at the shows then you could possibly attract more shooters, including sporting clays guys and cowboy actions guys, who might not have ever given TV a second look before.

Just my crazy idea.

I think Steve has some good points.  Provide as many different formats as possible.

Don't forget the IDPA style shooting and the 50 cal!

Maybe even some T.V. class teasers.  Have some one hour demo's of the pistol, carbine, and shogun classes that folks could "test drive" before signing up for the full class.

Hell T.J. you could rent out your 50 cal at $10 a bang to peoeple who would never own or have an opportunity to pull the trigger on one, but would gladly pay to go BOOOOOM!! once or twice.

I just finished 20 days in Waco with some Marine Snipers, some of which just got out and are now contractors.  One was a Silver Star winner as a sniper.  He got shot in both lungs, lost his spleen, part of his colon and part of his small intestine.  He has some great contacts with organizations that do good work for these guys.  I am trying to cultivate those resources at this time....

I help Ed Hoffer with the wounded Warriors fun shoots in San Antonio.  Shoot me an Email, and I'll network your info around.  I'll be at Tiger valley jan 30th for the match, and then plan on the bug out this year.

We need ammo for our guys.
