I went to the movies at AMC Firewheel 18, 100 Coneflower Drive, Garland, TX 75040 and noticed that they have changed the signage from the "no handgun" picture, you know, this one:

to a true Texas 30.06 sign.

That really sucks because that's the closest theater to the house for the family and I.  I guess I'll fire off a letter or email to the theater manager and the national office stating my displeasure.

I don't understand the necessity to have uniformed LEO's on premises to "keep the peace" but not allowing properly licensed individuals to carry.  It was really irresponsible to go place my handgun back in the trunk of the car, but that's what I had to do.

Apparently, we won't be going back unless the wife and I have a fight and I go unarmed...  I don't want to give them anymore of my money.  Hellfire, it was $30 for tickets for the wife and two kiddies and another $28 for three large Diet Cokes and two large popcorns-- that in and of itself is damned-near enough to keep me from going back-- then add in the fact that I can't legally pack there convinces me that I'm done.

1" high block letters on a contrasting background that was posted at EVERY entrance?
When complete those signs are about 2’ wide and 3’ high.  If they had smaller print and or other irregularities then it’s not a valid sigh and therefore you are not breaking any law by ignoring it.  If they post that sign at only one entrance you can legally go in thru another set of doors.

I would go somewhere else or rent a movie and watch at home with the family....much cheaper and safer....And send them e-mail to let them know your intention.  They might not give a sh!t or two, but at least they know.

I agree and this is what we do 99.999% of the time.

We can spend $8.50 each(x 2) and $6.00 (x 2) for the fam to go or we can spend $12.99 to buy the DVD and watch in the comfort and safety of our home.

There are very few movies that I would even go see at the theatre if it were just me.

That pisses me off.

I have gone there multiple times and it is the closest to our house also.
I go nowhere with my children without my ch pistol and I will not go there again.

Hell, if I go to firewheel - I carry anyhow.
That place is nice during the day with all the moms, dads, and kids - but if you have ever gone during a fri or sat evening it is full of idiot high school age fools from GARLAND.

Thus, it is like hanging out in little gang/thugish want to be land.

I don't take my kids there at those times - I prefer to be able to control the environment that I put my children in and it is a little too uncontrolable.

Sad - because I had hopes that it would be a nice place when they made it - but kne that with it being located at the corner of GARLAND that it would eventually be like that - just hoped it would be a while before it was.

Would ya'll knock that off?  The law does not require "every entrance" to be posted.  If you observe the sign and enter thru another door that is not signed you are in violation.

Actually, the law does not require that you observe the sign, only that it be posted in a manner "conspicuous manner clearly visible to the public".

Giving advice that can get people charged with a crime is pretty inexcusable.

If a movie theater feels the need to have armed Police Officers on-site, they apparently have or expect problems you do not know about. I would avoid the place even if armed.

Lets see now, 2000 people times 15 bucks each every 2.5 hours, thats a lot of cash.  Add to the fact that the oldest person you can find working is probably 22 years old.

I worked the old Holly Wood USA at Garland and LBJ for three years.  We had seven Officers working every Friday night and still had problems controlling the gang bangers.  One night I was stuck patrolling the parking lot in the School Resource Officer van when I see this guy walking toward the movie with a long trench coat.  Being May, it was a little unseasonal, even for the attire of a gang banger.  I noticed the fact that his left hand was holding something under the coat and stepped from the vehicle and politely asked to see his hands.  When that didn't work I reinforced my point and his hands shot up, at which time a 12 gage dropped from under the coat.  We would have probably had us a good gun fight as for the fact that he not only had the shotgun under his coat, but down his pant leg, not conducive to speed deployment.  Extended tube, buck shot and mask all ready to play.

If it was me, no pistol no movie.

Actually, it was block white letters simply stuck to the clear glass of the doors at foot level.  You know, like sticking a vinyl sticker onto glass-- the only thing you could see besides the wording was through the glass.  It was not a black lettering on a white sign and I wasn't really sure the lettering was a full 1" tall either.  Without dropping to a knee and measuring, I'd have thought the lettering may have only been 1/2" to 3/4" inch tall, in English and Spanish, but not really a contrasting background.  I know I'm not explaining it well, but it looked like this except proper 30.06 wording maybe 1" tall, literally as low on the glass as they could get it:

It doesn't even have to be at the door.  Taco Cabana for example.  Firewheel can be argued to have only 1 entrance.  The mall itself does not have 30.06, nor do any of the other Simon Properties in the area.  The AMC is a separate satellite facility, not physically connected to any other, at Firewheel.

WTF.

When did they post this? I was just there last weekend and did not see it posted.

Also, If they are posting armed guards, I can fully understand. The bangers and wanna be gangers have really taken over. Just sitting at the Cold Stone Creamery I felt like I very uneasy.

AMEN- I don't take my wife and child on the weekend evenings.
Only mid day, late afternoon , and armed.

Pisses me off that they opened the place so close to my place and it is already a crap hole. But I expected it - just not so quickly.
