Well, my gunsmith has had my gun since mid march and he is still NOT done!  All I wanted to do was have a NM rear put on my Springfield Scout.

I guess the NEW part from Springfield was broke, so he sat on it for a month, then sent it to Springfield after I called him to check on his progress.  Another MONTH later when I call him to check on it, and he doesn't have the part back from Springfield.  I ask, "have you called them to find out whats up?"  he said "yup, I left a message and they never called me back".  OK....CALL AGAIN!

I was mad at this point and called them myself, nothing on file from him.  Call him back to find out WTF!  He calls them to find that they never logged the part in so it was in perpetual limbo.  3 days later he has the part in.  At this point I was so upset that I just told him to put the regular sight back on, and since Springfield said I could, I'm returning the NM rear for a full refund.  But now he's been on vacation for a week and the week before that he was at some stupid class.  So, here I sit, WITHOUT my rifle again, on a free weekend where I could go hunt hogs, or shoot and I cant because this guy has my rifle, and he will not be back till JUNE THE 18th!

Every single time I call, he's not there, he's in some class or doing something else.  I've been given the full run around by this guy and I'll never go back.  Sad thing too, he came highly recommended to me in Austin.  I'd rather pay 4 bucks a gallon and drive to Houston to have smith work done at this point.  Now I just want my rifle back.

You'd think that if your customers gun had a problem, that you'd call, and then do a follow up after a prescribed period of time.  Couple days, no problem.  Couple weeks, I take issue with that.  If it was followed up, I wouldn't complain, but it wasn't.  It took me ONE damn call to Springfield to know there was a problem.  He let it go over a month, and hadn't called back.

Damnit...I'm just MAD!

Yeah. He has a LONG history of doing that. There are better gunsmiths that won't jack you around locally. They might be a little more expensive{although they couldn't be that much more} but are pretty fast about getting your stuff back. Everyone I know that has used him has had the same story you have told.

I will probably be at LSGR tomorrow afternoon.

this is why I try and do as much as I can myself now. Sometimes a 20min job turns into a month sitting at the smith. plus you save money and get to buy more guns or ammo

I wont give the actual name, unless you IM me.  Only because there are some ties to my work.  I just can't understand how someone can stay in business with little to NO customer service.  The employee's have been nice, its the lack of actual service that I find dissappointing.  I felt bad for one employee while I was in their the other day trying to get my rifle back.  Someone called looking for their gun, it wasn't ready, and who ever it was that was calling, chewed the poor guy taking calls ass.  I stood by and watched this guy get it for a good 5mins.  He had nothing to do with it.  Oh well.

I do too.  From now on, I'll do anything to keep my stuff from going to a smith.  This is on par with my luck though.  If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have much luck at all.

WHOO HOO!!!  Got it back today...  Only a little over 3 months and the sight never got put on.  Oh well, I'm so happy to have it back that if I want to modify it, I'll do it myself, or have a friend/arfcommer do it.  Too bad that I dont have time to shoot for a few weeks...

It is a shame the the smith in question is such a putz. He does do good work if he can be bothered to look at your gun. What he did to you is nothing new. I have heard really good things about the gunsmith{s} at Sportmans Finest. I have not used them yet but plan on having them do the trigger on my DPMS.

GT Distributors is okay for small stuff like putting night sight on your pistol. I have never had them do anything else.

 Good luck.
