I checked my status online and it says:

Application Completed - license issued or certificate active

About how long does it take them to mail it out? I've been waiting since December.

Your license goes from the CHL division to the mail room, who mails out in batches.  You should get it PDQ!

That's good to hear. I'm glad they didn't kick back my fingerprints a second time.

Sent my app in on Dec 20th time frame. I am still pending. This is BS!
I still say I should not need a license for an inherent right of all Americans protected by our forward thinking forefathers of 250+ years ago. God gives me the right to defend my home and family, not my government.

Sorry, I know I'm preaching to the choir.

Yeah, they got my app around Dec 14th or so. I found out in Feb they kicked my fingerprints back. So I got them done electronically, and those got processed Feb 20th. So I know what you're going through.

I sent my Utah in on March 20th.

I bet I get mine faster! Still good in Texas, cheaper overall, and easier to renew.
Took the class here in Fort Worth.

$65 for 5 years.
$10 renewals, with just a new photo.

Call and be calm and nice.  You should have received a letter or the license by now.

Sent mine in on Jan. 20 as 1st class mail. Online status just changed to "Processing Application" on  March 31st.  So much for the 60 day turnaround promised by DPS.

One should always use Certified Mail when dealing with DPS.  That way they can't pretend your application arrived a month or two later than it actually did.

ETA:  I think they interpret the 60 day thing as 60 business days.

DPS does not promise a 60 day turnaround.  In fact, the law gives them 90 days from the time they receive a completed application.  At 90 days, if they need more time they should notify you.

And the online statuts is usually way behind what they are actually doing.

Why would they "pretend"?  What does it gain them?  What does having a return receipt DO for you, actually?  You know when they got it, but what recourse does that give you?

See my last post for debunking the 60 day myth.  BTW, I have posted the actual law in the Texas HTF a couple of times.  ;)

It was reported back in 1996 that DPS wasn't starting the clock (really the calendar) until they opened the envelope.  Having a delivery confirmation gave you a way to call them on their hijinx.

I don't know that something reported on a "group" over a decade ago was even true then, or what relevance it has now.

After reading that, I just don't believe DPS engaged in the "hijinx" you allege.

Besides, delivery conformation would have been irrelevant, as the poster in the thread claimed DPS told him when they opened the envelope your 90 started.  Delivery Confirmation would be MOOT if DPS actually had taken that stance.

But then, I don't believe all of the government is out to screw me over.

Regardless of whether it actually is useful or not, actually KNOWING when a letter was delivered and a certain event happened is just good business.

Be it between multi-million dollar companies, or an individual dealing with the government.  Or an individual dealing with another individual.

I'll agree with having Peace of Mind KNOWING that the post office did not lose your package and that it was received.

Got mine last year, under 60 days.  My wife's was sent back for additional documentation because she was born at an American hospital in Libya while her father was stationed in Greece back in the 60's.  We had to send additional state department certificates to prove she was a US citizen.  It was a pain, but they seemed to handle it fairly efficiently.

BTW, my guess for the backlog is that everyone's rushing to get their CHL before the administration change in November.

You need to quit checking the mail.  I remember running home daily to look for my CHL only to go .  Finally, work got busy and I quit stressing over it.  Then days later, my wife calls me to tell me IT ARRIVED.  Damnit I left work and went straight home just to get it and my gun.

Received a letter in the mail today from the Texas Dept. of Public Safety.  Tear into like a sugar crazed kid at Christmas!
It's just a letter stating they have received my application and I can use their website to track to my application thru the process.
