Wow, no kidding? Yeah I remember the good old $3.86 a box days. I should have stocked up on 9mm, but instead I stocked up on rifle stuff only.

At this point it's more price gouging than anything (I know, I know - supply & demand, free market). Materials & transport have NOT increased enough to justify an increase of nearly 300%.

If it had, car batteries would now be $240 (they are heavy, have to be transported and contain metals).

They make a lot less from me. Instead of buying/shooting 1200 rounds a week (always from Academy), I shoot maybe 100 rounds a month.

JEEZ.

I am still shooting ammo I bought 3 years ago at 3.86 and 4.86. I shoulda paid more attention.

The UMC .45acp went up almost 5.00!!!!

Yea, I bought 2000 rounds @ 3.86, then it went up to 7.99 or something like that about 6-8 weeks ago.  Started buying red dot and primers to start reloading 9mm.

ETA with Blazer @$10, let's see how long until WWB and others make the jump.  I think that WWB is still about the same as Blazer at the moment.

I used to shoot WWB .40 exclusively as my practice round.  It's up to $26.99/100 at all the Fort Worth Wal-marts I've been to lately.  When I started shooting .40, 4 years ago, it was $12.00/100.

Makes ya wonder what they are up to since I still pay the same price for a car battery (~70$) that I paid over the past decade or so. Funny how just bullets are going up because they contain lead..they obviously never thought that bullets aren't the only thing that contain lead (ie batteries!)    Then again they will probably just say its not the lead its the copper thats doing it.

Natchez Shooters Supply (www.natchezss.com) has CCI Blazer Aluminum 9mm for $7.49 per box of 50. It comes to $8.50 a box shipped to my door. This is about $2 per box cheaper than Academy right now. I just placed my order.

If you don't like Blazer Aluminum, Natchez also has Blazer Brass for $8.99 per box. Buy it (sort of) cheap and stack it deep!

Lame. The good ole days of a 1k round case for $77 are something we can only dream about now. The last time I went to the range was in December, and it was only to verify the zero on my deer rifle. I'm scared to shoot any of my ammo other than .22LR due to fact everything has freaking tripled in price and I couldn't afford to restock to my current supply.

i hate that. the ammo is not worth that much.

Apparently Winchester AA (12 gauge) went up $20 / box!

Pretty much. They used to be my go-to spot, now not so much. They not only lose on ammo sales, but lose other sales because they aren't bringing the customer into the store any more.

Not that it could happen (coordination is too difficult) but I wonder how low ammo sellers/producers would drop the price if a large percentage of ammo buyers boycotted simultaneously for an extended period?

After leaving Academy today without any ammo in hand for the reasons listed above, I drove across the Hwy to Sportsman's Warehouse for some reloading components. They were out. No large rifle primers, no powder, and ONE box of 100 bullets of my favorite brand. And the manager said that corporate won't let him do a special order for me.

8 months ago Academy had cheap ammo and SW was well stocked.

Sadly, me too. The only shooting I do is to stay sharp on my CCW. No fun stuff for me.

It is just nuts the way prices keep skyrocketing. This year I will finally start reloading. Wish I had started years ago.

I got a gift card there , for my birthday. The blazer was 10 bucks, i got a 250 rnd. pack of Rem. for 45.99.
I will save the brass, but damn i don't want to start reloading 9mm again.
Between my .308 and .45 auto, i am doing all the reloading i can make time for.
I sized and primed 50 rnds. of .308 last night.

I was a BIG fan of blazer, for the last few years.

The twenty-something year old blonde female that works the gun counter at our new Academy probably knows more about firearms than anyone else in the store.

And for that matter, is at least as smart as the guys at the 'real' gun shops in the area.

We have a girl that works at the gun counter in the Conroe Academy. I went in and asked for a box of 9m wwb 115 grain jhp. She had them in my hand before I could point them out. There was this one guy he was slow and never knew where things were and you had to guide him in to what you wanted. I find their prices the best in Conroe. Some of the local shops almost double the price of ammo. When I got my Sig p6 I was in such a hurry to shoot it I bought a box 50 of fmj speer for $20.00. Heck I should have know better since I had just got screwed with a $40.00 transfer fee. I will never have anything sent to thet shop again.
