Hey All,

My beloved HP Notebook just went "non-functional" after I used it last night.

Last thing I did before shutting it down was to run a scanner for rootkit viruses, which scanned and reported no problems.

Shut it down, and now when I try to fire up the notebook, I get the initial HP start up screen (giving me the 'esc' and 'f10' options to change bios set up.  then I get a "gray screen" and nothing more happens.  I tried checking the boot order to make sure the HDD is the #1 (but the system just won't advance.

I have all kinds of critical information that I did not get to back up, (I just bought a USB Hard Drive to back up all the data - then it goes Fritzed day before the back up...  ARGGGHHHHH

Two questions -

(A) any ARFCOM Techies in West Houston who could help?

(B) Any recommendations for a computer shop in West Houston (Town & Country / Memorial City area)

Please let me know

It may be possible to recover your data from the hard drive if the hard drive is not completely fritzed.
Your system either has a SATA or an ide hard drive in it depending on the model and year.
If the system itself is gone, then you will just have to get another laptop. There are some repairs that can be done to the system. I can recover your data at my work which is in Kingwood. I live in west Houston but the fix it stuff is in Kingwood.
