I am interested in getting a Florida CHL for concealed carry here in texas.  I would like to get a texas CHL, but because of deferred adjudication I recieved as a minor (7 years ago) I'm not eligible for a texas CHL.

From what I have read, Florida is less strict on their concealed carry laws and only 3 (or 5) years have to have passed on a deferred adjudication to be eligible.  I do plan to try and get a texas CHL once I am eligible, but has anyone every done this for this or another reason?

What was the deferred for?

I don't think that if you are a TX resident, that you can just get an out of state CHL and be good to carry in Texas.

If that were true, we would all be getting the cheapest state license out there.

Yes, you can.  There is nothing in the CHL laws that deny recognition/reciprocity with out of state licenses for Texas residents.

I did it because there is no class requirement if you are a veteran. It WAS cheaper but now it's not. You still have to get a NICS check and I don't think it comes up when the 5-0 run your license. SS

I have asked the same question on several boards and have gotten mixed answers if this is legal to carry with a Florida permit, while a texas resident.

It is legal to carry in texas with a florida permit.
If florida will let you, then yes you can get an out of state resident ccw from them.
As I recall it is a bit more and you still have to have a class or be a vet to get your chl from that state.

Texas has full reciprocity with Florida.  There is no provision in the reciprocity excluding Texas residents.  Anyone who tells you otherwise, ask for the source.
