| With .223 ammunition well over $300.00 a thousand have any of you guys invested in conversion kits for your AR's. For our up-coming classes we are toying with the idea of only needed 300 rounds of .223 and the rest can be .22. Yes it doesn't recoil like it's big brother, but you will never feel recoil in a real shootout anyway. All shooting inside the 50 can be with the .22, when we move to the longer distances we will switch to full power ammo. Any of you guys currently using conversion kits? |

I have the ciener 22 conversion, but don't shoot it too often because the mag sucks. I did see somewhere that someone is making a 30 rd mag for the ciener kit, but I don’t remember the mfg. (Looks like a USGI mag.) Not the skinny one that comes with the ciener. Someday if ammo keeps going up, I’ll call it a day at the TV open shoots with only 3-4 mags shot of 5.56. To expensive |

I'm using a Ciener and have 9 Black Dog Manufacturing 30 round mags. All work great, and they're the old style mags. The new ones hold 25-27, and look more like a regular AR mag. If anything, the Ciener is the weak link in the system. BDM and a few others are working on a better system. The conversions need more cleaning, but it's quick to run a chamber brush and hose it out with brake cleaner and a shot of oil as a followup. I can usually get 300-350 rounds before it starts to stutter a bit. Ammo is key too. CCI Mini-mags or Federal Bulk from Wally World. Remington doesn't work in most of these kits very well. There's also a point of impact change. I set up my Eotech for 223, and the iron sights for 22lr. Trigger control is the same. That's the important part. |
